Grega is absolutely right, that we are biased because it was the very first westernized anime. If it were released around the same time as other animes, it would probably rate pretty low. The basic story is well thought out, but poorly executed. Saiyans, aliens from outer space that turn into giant monkeys and find the ability to achieve transformations that should be limited to one Saiyan every thousand years, yet achieve 3 different levels, 4 if you include GT, 5 if you include April Fools...

Why not just stick with 2 tranformations and use supercharged energy attacks? Why do they go so far as making a transformation that makes you grow hair, then alter it, then grow it again, then shorten it and grow body hair? It's got "I want attention, doesn't matter what kind!" written all over it.

Rant over...

I STRONGLY disagree , they said it was a myth a legend that a Super Saiyan emerged every 3000yrs , but it was a myth after all wasn't it ? a Super Saiyan must have a pure heart , pure evil or good , either ways while there was a possibility that saiyans were not entirely cruel , then there was allot of training involved which almost every one ignored and most of the people in Dragon Ball Z are just plain strong with out any training , besides Goku and the others no one trained at all . Gotenks got Super Saiyan because he already had a high base level and allot of training same with Trunks , and they never said that no one could achieve a level beyond . it was not a compulsory thing that no more than 1 Super Saiyan could emerge just because none other did earlier , the story is well written and at least I am not being biased as it was not my first anime , not even close , but I still love it for its plot , story and above all action

to be real it doesn't matter

Dragon Ball Z was my first real anime and I love it

animation flaws or story flaws don't really matter to me

animation flaws can eat my buttocks with some extra Vegeta sauce

Dragon Ball Z was the stuff and that's all that matters

I think Sailor Moon (I was four and my cousins had the remote)was my first anime, but I didn't really understand much. Pokemon was my first anime that I followed until a friend introduced Dragon Ball Z to me. After that, I dedicated life to Dragon Ball Z, literally.

I was introduced to Dragon Ball Z first, but sat through Sailor Moon to prevent myself from missing the next Dragon Ball Z episode, and a couple years later, I got into Pokemon.

For some reason, I have played at least one Pokemon RPG/Strategy game from each generation. And I am 19! *intense laughter*

You'd think I'd have grown out of it by now, but the games are addicting sometimes.

... I wish The Legend of Zelda released an anime... I don't care whether it is made by professionals or fan-made. There was one fan-made anime, The Legend of Zelda: Unknown Origins, but there hasn't been any progress for a couple of years, and I can't even find the supposedly continuing doujinshi.
