Exactly this. I was a beta tester for the game. It wasn't exactly the high time of my life, since the game was still very small, and, well, not very interactive. The humor was good and clean, however. I respect Artix Entertainment for that.
They also made puns and spin-offs that hinted at other movies, games, myths, legends, medieval stories, and even included advanced technologically themed content.
They pretty much add their own interpretations of anything that we know about in the real world. An update every week, for all of their games.
It's not as good as RuneScape (if you would consider that the best F2P MMO), but the staff are very dedicated to what they do. I do see that they are getting cooler things in their games, but I would prefer 3D over 2D in most cases.

Most MMOs would have a sort of tutorial. It was actually fairly simple here. I can't remember exactly what I went through, but I remember having to travel to an area labeled "Noobshire" or something. It's basically there to show you the ropes, not meant to single you out as an leaping lizard player for all eternity.
