I have watched it, and really wasn't anything special. But that's because I don't really like super hero movies (at least most of them). The one I really do like is The Dark Knight. Every other super hero movie is mediocre at best (in my opinion that is  )

Watched it. Pretty much the same plot as Spider-Man 1, slightly different, but I kind of expected that, after all it's still about the origins of Spider-Man.
Looking forward to The Amazing Spiderman 2 and 3, they seem to have added some mystery to the plot, we don't know much about Peter's parents.
Oh, and Andrew Garfield >>>>>>>>>>>> Tobey Maguire

it is a slightly variant/modified story than the original Spiderman like a personal view.
toby movies were strictly based on the comics this ain't.
Still nothing outstanding. But a good movie to watch

Should we have a conversation about how Call of Duty is the best game ever created and Justin Bieber is a brilliant singer too? You know, because they sell a lot.
Then again teary-eyes and emo Spider-Man < Andrew Garfield.

The only reason the first Spiderman movies got more income was because of the fact that they were the first to be put on the big screen, and the fact that the story was so deep, that people could relate with the plight of Peter Parker.
Sure, he was a bit of a wimp, and broke down in tears quite a bit, but remember that he was in New York, still young, lost both his parents when he was too young to remember, had a serious crush on Mary Jane, and lost his Guardian Aunt (killed by the Green Goblin) and Uncle (killed by a car thief, then ended up to be the Sandman).
So yeah, I'd say the great amount of income is attributed to people feeling sympathy and/or empathy for the hero, and cheering him on through his hardships.
EDIT: I won't say it fits strictly within the comics, but it sure as heck seems to be far more impressive than these remakes.
