On the topic of mêlée, it should still be there(only some of the more recent unstable revisions don't have it I think, but you said you're using 1536, so it should be there). You just have to fly towards someone while you have them targeted, and it should initiate automagically. Clicking your left/right mouse buttons plus w, a, s, or d, will allow you to do either a stun(left click) or power attack(right click) in the direction associated with each key. W knocks them up, S knocks them down, A and D are Left and Right respectively, not holding down any of those keys and right clicking will simply knock them back.
As for powering down manually, hold down F and press and hold A. Powering back up is F then D, transforming is F then W or S to transform up/down respectively.

thanks for answering
a few more questions if you don't mind..
1)how do you switch characters? I'm stuck playing as Goku all the time
2)at what point are you able to transform? when I first respawn I'm not able to, so is there a gauge or something on the HUD that tells me when I can transform?
3)is there a way to manually power up (restore ki) or does it just do it automatically slowly?

there's a player option.. or after you opened ZEQ2,click on the character

maybe you're power level is like 1000 or something... when selecting maps,under it there's a power level option.try changing it to 32767

press and hold "F + D" to power up.. then "F + A" to power down
