You should try to smudge the dark orange lines. Also, don't blur the image to much, that might make it look crappy in-game.

I wouldn't try to smudge the lighting bits. Quite the opposite as they should have some form of alias'd crispness to them.
One other important thing is that you need to start from a simple uniform power of two texture (256x256,512x512,etc.). You have to consider how your image is going to be applied. In this case, it'll likely serve as a texture on a 3D mesh -- unless you are trying to do it as a sprite (not recommended).

Well that sounds like a lot of new stuff to learn. So you basically mean that it'll have to be a 512x512 square texture?
And I guess the beam and the orange lightning stripes will have to be seperate?
And why not sprites? Aren't they used anymore?
(I hope we're not going out of topic too much, I just want to help out however I can)

It doesn't have to be those exact dimensions, but it does need to be power of two for better handling. Unity, specifically, wants all textures to be uniform width/height for better GPU performance.

That's not necessary. One texture is fine.

Sprites are useful for many things, but in this case, try to imagine the 3D creature shooting the beam from its mouth while the camera rotates around. Without a billboard effect (sprite aligned to always face camera), you'll very quickly notice its flatness. With a billboard effect, it will look completely wrong at vertical angles. This is why I recommend a 3D mesh be used to some extent -- although it could be used in conjunction with sprites.

Just a quick question. How can I test it ingame? Should I simply swap some files, like a normal beam with that hyper beam or do I need some other software for that?

Mh, I checked the .grfx tutorial and I just can't get it to work... Do I need to make a .skin file? If yes, how can I make it?

You only need a .skin file if you are applying a material/shader/texture to a mesh. If you are using the builtin beam-trail system for testing from the grfx file, it should be simply a matter of creating a new shader with your texture and changing the entry in the grfx file.
Or, if you want to be super quick about it, just drag/drop replace an existing beam texture that you know is used.

Well, Blender IS a good alternative if size is an issue.
