Next update is going to be when I finish uvw mapping and skinning him. That'll take some time.

Update!

This is the final model which I'm not going to change anymore. Mainly because I'm in the process of UVW-mapping it.

If you're going to use ink and paint for renders, try not to enable any outline type except the silhouettes. Smoothing groups and other inner outlines look very strange indeed. You might try lowering the width to 1 as well.

Good luck with that. I'm sure you can do it if you put your mind to it.

@Zeth: Next render I make, is going to be with the texture so I'll try to do it like you said then.

How do you do it? Your model is fabulous.

I have a question regarding uvw mapping.

In the Goku head texture is see the face is not mirrored, you have both sides. But then I see only 1 ear, only 1 part of the nose.

How do you realise that, it would save space and time?

The eyes are too big I think.

Here are a few suggestions.

  • Eyes look pretty good, although they should be more round if you want to do the earlier saga version.
  • Definitely should remove the textured line on the nose (leave this to the outlines to handle when the angles are right).
  • I'd recommend lowering the thickness on your non-textured (ink-n-paint) outlines a step (at least for this close-up render).
  • The neck is still too large (or the head is too small). Consider lowering the head position and possibly scaling it up.
  • Pick a neutral skin tone color for the stepped-shading (the actual color of the shades). Grey/black isn't as flattering as a reddish tone on the skin will be.
  • Fill in the scars with a darker shade rather than just the base skin color.
  • On that note, the base skin color could probably use more saturation IF the shade color change doesn't help enough.
  • The eyes should be set in a separate object as Dragon Ball Z eyes do not take on the stepped-shading as other parts do.
  • Try and place a directional light in your scene pointing pointing either to the left or right side (rather than center). This will help improve the shading on your render as well.
  • Eye brows are missing the "scratchy" lines at the outer tips.
  • If you're going for a Darklink (Alain -- He did our Saibaman texture) / Budokai texture style, try to make your lines more pronounced and darkened. Conversely, if you are going for a SV (Current ZEQ2-lite character textures) style, you may consider trying to use line tapering to make the texture outlines flow more smoothly.

Can you post which head references you are following so a more accurate comparison can be done?

How do I do these?

-The nose line I will remove.

-The head needs upscaling indeed.

-All the rest has already been fixed.

I'm going for the end Dragon Ball Z style. But I use a couple different references.

Edit: Next update will be when I finish the full skin.

I use 3D studio max and adobe Photoshop. Milkshape is inferior, only useful to compile md3 models.

Is 3D studio max easier to use?
