Being with the volunteer fire brigade here is the golden rule.
You can't help anyone if you can't help yourself. If you love up you do nothing more than add to the count of people who need to be rescued.

Support message from Akira Toriyama
The famous Japanese magazine, Shonen Jump the just published in its issue this week a message of support to victims of recent earthquakes and tsunami in Japan. And who better than the legendary manga artist Akira Toriyama to convey such a message? The word support is accompanied by an illustration of His Goku (Dragon Ball) and Arale (Dr. Slump), two of his greatest creations. Here's the translation:
