how to get back original HUD?

You should have backed up the hud file but if you did not do that extract this in your ZEQ2 folder to return to normal

Or you can simply delete the modified hud, then do an SVN update on your main folder to get the official files again.

The lesson here is to ALWAYS back up files which you are overwriting. It's never good to have something messed up and unable to be "removed" because you've didn't have a backup of the original file.

That's usually the case, Alex, however when you have a version control system at the helm, backing up individual changes is a thing of the past! (although I'm assuming the person in question did not realize this)

Indeed, but for a user who fails to understand the importance of backing up files they're overwriting and thus are unaware how to restore such files to their original state in the typical manner, concepts such as version control would go straight over their head Wink

Overall from a user point of view, it's faaaaaar quicker to restore such things from a renamed backup than go through the motions with deleting and updating, especially if there's conflicted files from other mods and so on. It can also be confusing to inexperienced users as to why files are marked as "skipped" or it says it's all fine at revision XXX when it things are changed.

Even from a user-perspective, it's still much easier to rely on a version control system for several changes in files. As long as you're working from an existing (or no) version of the file, you won't have conflict or update issues whatsoever.

Not only that, but you can much more easily thumb through and grab particular versions of a file without needing to store cumbersome backups with likely obfuscatory filenames that would need to be renamed to the original for usage (therefore complicating the matter of backing up and managing even more).
