More than anything else, unique and improved animations is what's lacking most on characters all around. If the community can learn the art of frame by frame animating, the ENTIRE SERIES worth of animations could be replicated in no time. Essentially anyone with the right software, a tiny bit of knowledge, and a basic eye for details can do this.

It's not a difficult process at all. It's merely time consuming.

How much time does it take to animate and also I might start modeling when I get out of school or when I have some free time Very Happy

Depends what you're animating, and how good you want it to look.

For example, simply using the default Goku animations on a model requires tweaking every frame to better match the rig, which can take upwards of 4 hours, depending on how much needs fixing. And that's before adding any custom attack or movement animations, or what have you.

Animating from scratch takes even longer, as you're animating each and every frame fully, and keeping a record of which animations are where and how long for the animation.cfg later. I'd hazard a guess to say the animations themselves would take roughly a week to produce, possibly longer if you're going strictly off of references, and longer still if you've never animated before. And the animation.cfg file would take about 2 to 4 days more, depending how good your notation was while animating.

That's really quite variable. If your skeleton/rig is in similar construction to the original model's proportions, not much work will be needed to make an existing .bip file match.

Few notes.

  • Dave did most of the present animations from scratch in a few days although, yes, he is pretty experienced in the process.
  • Animating based on references actually takes considerably less time than creatively and uniquely coming up with your own designs. My comment about time-consumption was in relation to the quantity of animations and reference gathering steps.
  • The animation.cfg only takes 10-15 minutes to write up. Not sure where your estimates came from on this particular case. It's really just a matter of recording the start frame for animation, it's length, loop frame, etc.

That was based off of an uneducated guess, as I haven't done an animation.cfg from scratch yet, seeing as I've been using either Goku's or Piccolo's animations to save time on animating. Granted, the more accurate approach would be to do from scratch animations for each character...

And yes, you're right about time investment varying greatly. Most of that is dependant on individual skill, experience, and focus.(Hard to animate when I have sisters yelling in my ear, for example...)

I don't think we should expect much since he's still in the stage of needing refs... I assumed this would be released with a new beta. OR is it an addon.

He is indeed still in the stage of needing refs, but only refs of the ponytail. So he should be done with it by now (plus I posted enough refs for it).
