Maybe you have too many shortcuts on your desktop, or too much memory being used by background programs. Try to configure your startup programs to include less of these programs that you do not use every time you power on the PC. Or, if you don't have that many background programs, it may have to do with your current amount of RAM. You'd need to buy and install the hardware in the RAM slot. If you have no slots left, you'd have to remove the RAM card(s) that do not contain as much RAM. The reason is, RAM stands for "Random Access Memory" meaning it uses memory to store temporary files, including files created by the computer during certain processes.

Before assuming it is a virus, did you check how much RAM you have? And then how much memory of RAM is being used? To see the amount of RAM available, go to Control Panel>System and Security>System, and it show your PC's statistics. To see how much is being used, press and hold down the CTRL, ALT, and DELETE keys, then select ->Start Task Manager, click the performance tab, then look at the graph labelled memory.

Also, did you happen to get a torrented OS? That may be the cause in the case that a virus exists. In the case that the OSes installed on you PC are perfectly legitimate, there must have been something you accessed from the PC or downloaded from the internet.

Either way, I do not think you can completely wipe away all trace of an OS, but there is a way to choose the Pro version instead. When starting up, there should be a screen where a key is briefly mentioned. Press that key as soon as you see it, then choose the Pro OS. Problem solved, except that your programs installed on the Ultimate, as well as all installed files of any kind, will not appear on the Windows 7 Pro.

Actually, you'd have to go set it to Pro manually, unless that is already the default OS. I'd recommend you google how to do this, as I don't have much clue how to do that.

I recently had a problem with losing files and programs due to using the development preview of Windows 8 and going back to Vista, so that's why I brought it up.

Happy Hunting. Razz I am glad to have helped.

No, that is not the problem at all. The problem is your RAM. Either you have to little RAM memory, or your programs are using too much RAM memory.

And that's why you have a slow computer; Family PCs use a large amount of programs in the background.

Windows 7 needs at least 1GB RAM to function normal..

You could try to use Windows 7 Starter edition or you could upgrade the ram.

Also Windows XP is an option Wink

for cleaning:
download CCleaner and select all options
http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner

after that I would run a virus scan with Malware Bytes
