So having a max power level of 1k, lowering yourself to 1pl, then dying and spawning with 6k is normal? then 12k the next time, then 24k the next?

The current mechanics are such that fighting at low powerlevel is the best way to train your maximum powerlevel. I don't say the system is good as it is now, but what you posted is not a bug.

Fighting at a lower power level does indeed help further your maximum. Death from a hit will not result in an increase in future versions.
