The best game in the universe has not yet been made.
The closest thing I find is an independent game called Angels Fall First: Planetstorm.
Built on the UDK and its a free standalone game with multiplayer as its main aspect. They even went as far as to create an entire universe and back story for their creation. History and everything.
The game itself resembles that of battlefield a bit with 2 main aspects.
Space combat and land combat. Depending on what map you choose. Land combat is pretty standard control the points to win style.
Space combat is as follows (standard version There can be different mission scenarios though). Both sides start with a few capital ships. Usually 2 small and 1 big.
They can be piloted and each and every turret on the ship can be reached and used. The bigger ship allso holds fighters and a boarding ship. The goal is to infiltrate the enemy main ship (the one with fighters), fight your way to the power core of the ship and destroy it, before the other team does the same to you. In the UT3 mod version of the game they allso had a mission where one side was stranded on a ship. They had to prevent the other team from stealing it and if they lost it, they had to destroy it.
Each and every map scenario is allso directly based on the back story they have created. You can decide your load-out before you respown and its fully customiseable along with where you start, your class (this determins what ships you can pilot and your armor) and some special equipment (multiwrench and cloak)
it's not perfect yet, but if they continue working on it itll be one badass of a game with no equal. Since even now the sheer size of the battles is gigantic.

AFF is a universe designed by a team of people who do mods for various games.
Including UT3. It was called AFF: Planetstorm
But after the UT3 mod, they decided to make it stand alone using the UDK. Now the stand alone version only has 2 scenarios created, but it's the newest version.
And no it's not similar to battlefield. In space battles you spown on the capital ships. If those get destroyed, your spowns are gone. And all capital ships can be piloted by players.
And it IS released. Just google for Angels Fall First universe and you'll get to their web site, where you can download the thing.

duno about the best game , but Earth Special Forces is the best and most fun Dragon Ball fan made MOD GAME
