Looks nice, but with those eyes it looks more like Goten so far. Goku needs more roundish eyes to look typically like his kid version.

Usually, yes, but ZEQ2-Lite is supposed to be a remastering of the story with Cell-Buu Saga visuals and cel-Shading.

EDIT: I didn't make that up, one of the respected forum members said that.

Yes that's true.
But Goku didn't appear in the Buu saga.

Then it's good to search for artwork that was made in a similar era of kid Goku. You could also go with his GT design.

But daizenshuu artworks or his sprites from ultimate butoden 27 are a good place to find Buu saga time artwork. Like this:

Well.... his GT design is utter garbage and I'm sure you agree.

How many refs do you keep on your computer? Laughing You always wip them out like a gun... BAM! Laughing

I guess your right that he didn't appear in the Buu Saga though, but he did appear in an episode while Piccolo was teaching Goten and Trunks the fusion dance. It was during Krillin's flashabck.

I guess were getting our references from different places.... I'll just let Niels choose because I'm not sure which ones are better.

In my opinion, I like the sharp cornered eyes better. I don't know why, but I don't think he looks like Goten, maybe because the face proportions are slightly different. Goten's cheeks were smaller than Goku's were and his hair was longer and more weighted even at that age.

I guess Niels could just make two different versions.

Or these.

Basically a lot of Goku lifespan pictures were made in those days. Most of them are pretty cool.

Hehe Jay that first one is actually the only one that isn't from yamamuro. It's a copy of a manga panel.

The problem with these is that they're from the post gt era, so when dragonball was actually not being produced as animation anymore and Toei effectively shut down (or at least the part that made dragonball animation). Must be around the year 2000 or a bit earlier.
Yamamuro and Nakatsuru still made a lot of dragonball art though from time to time. Like most game art and covers. And the covers for DVD releases. Nakatsuru can still please me till today but I think Yamamuro has kind of lost his touch. All in all I would never use anything from the post Toei shut down era of Dragon Ball Z pictures. There's always something off about it.

Actually I see now why Niels' model looks so much like Goten. It's the eyebrows. Because of them he looks too innocent almost sad even. Goku never looked like that. He was either extremily happy, extremily tinkled or confused. Razz

That, and Goku's eyebrows are bushier than Goten's. It's ultimately the brow position like you said.

Hey Niels, try to get Zeth's opinion on the eye shapes, it's ultimately up to him(If you want it put in the SVN media).

Get me a full front render of the head and I'll see what I can do.

Amazing refs guys!! Thanks a ton Smile

After reading your posts, I made a comparison and found that the eyebrows and eyes shape(as TRL stated) as well as the skin tone was the major problem, so I started fixing it.

While doing so, I decided to set up some morph targets instead of editing the mesh to further test the face structure and I'm quite happy with the results. I have actually setup 3 morph states and they are Base(no changes), Suspicious/frown and Smile.

Here are the results I got (includes the front head render you wanted Bradless). The last one is a mix of frown and smile, which I think looks cool so I added it Razz

Check the last post of TRL. The eyes are rounded in some cases and is some cases they have sharp edges.

Yes, his eye shape does change when he's doing different expressions, but his default facial expression has round eyes. I would make them rounder if I were you.
