Been meaning to make this character for a while, and while not actually Dragon Ball Z related, his name's origins do come from it, and by extension, my forum name, since I was watching a lot of Dragonball Z when the character concept first came to me...

Shenku = Shenroku = Shenron + Goku, or in other words, he was originally a "fusion" of Goku and the eternal dragon, for those whom were ever wondering where my forum name came from... The character was later changed completely to be different entirely in both design and origins, and now exists in a world of my own creation.

Well, I finally got the inspiration and drive I needed to get started on my namesake character, and he's all modeled and textured already(though I still need to do the hair, and possibly tweak the colors some, but come on, it's 4am and I need sleep!). I cut a few corners by using portions of Goku's and Raditz's models(Goku's chest/neck and arms/hands, and Raditz's face and part of his hair), but I modeled out the rest myself...

There something about that blue. So horribly saturated. That blue and that green just don't work well together.

My personal preference goes to nrs. 2, 5 and 6.

I just had to play with some colors.

Personally, since he's a bit celestial I would have gone with some kind of rob covering his pants And being the same color as his upper gi.

More like dragon-kin. This is his humanoid form, I plan on making his dragon form later(which will likely need to be made entirely from scratch due to its complexity...).

And I somewhat agree with you, TRL, about the colors not working great with one another, but that's been his design since about 2004. I've considered changing the colors several times to make them go together more, but I never had the heart to do it officially for his design... I have toyed with the idea to change the colors of his shirt and pants to match(similar to Goku's gi, though a different color), though I wasn't sure on what color...

I do kind of like number five's color scheme, so I may adjust it(at least the shirt and pants) to that. Not keen on its belt color though...

As for his attacks, they're going to be completely new attacks, and while I'll use Goku's mêlée as a reference for movement, I'm going to try to give him a more feral fighting style(swipes and stabs, since he's suppose to have claws, kind of like Inuyasha, for those familiar with that anime... I'll adjust the hand models to better relate this fact shortly...).

It's not that hard if you're creative and/or know how to recycle and re-purpose models for new creations. I say go for it, what can it hurt to try?

Well that's 2 similar blues next to eachother.

What was your original idea for those colors? I thought about coming red yellow and green since it's shenron. I was guessing that's where the green pants came from.

Actually, the green pants came from the fact that when I first drew and colored the character, I only had a handful of color pencils with me at the time... I dug out the old sketchbook I drew it in and am looking at it and cringing... I'd scan it and upload it to show you the colors I originally used(which is actually less saturated than the renders above...), but it's such an old drawing that it really doesn't hold half a candle to my current drawing abilities, so I'd rather not embarrass myself by posting such horrible trash for the world to see...

Really though, I think I might need to scrap the original colors entirely and go with a 3 color approach that'll be more complimentary, and just update his whole appearance. (Primary color, secondary color, and highlight color, to use a technique one of my teachers at school is fond of for his character designs...) If I'm going to do that, however, I'm going to need to tinker with his clothing design some, to allow for color placement in more than just "blue shirt, green pants, skyblue waist-cloth"...

Yeah to allow for more colors. This is what I meant with a more robe looking design. This is how I would've handled it.

Then again although he's looking kind of like a Spanish casanova. The colors do work now or it could be that I'm getting accustomed to them.

All in all it's not a bad idea to revise a design that you came up with when you just started drawing.

Like how I redesigned the villain I invented when I first started drawing dragonball. I can only say it improved, you don't want to see the original.

Nice.

I would go with different colored pants though. It can be a different kind of blue anything but with it all being blue it's giving me too much of a jail time overall vibe.

I'd also go with some details on the shoes. Even if it's just that martial artist style white border.

Looking good.

His shoes are looking a bit "booty" though, the tips need to be more point and the shoes more flat to be that martial arts type.

I was actively trying to stay away from the blue and red combination there because that color scheme is pretty similar to the supreme kai. Don't know if you've noticed that.

But both being kind celestial creatures that doesn't have to be a bad thing.

Well, he's suppose to be wearing "boots", so it's kind of accurate to what he would be wearing. Think kind of like combat boots that someone in the military might wear.

And I don't mind if his color scheme too closely resembles the Supreme Kai, actually it gives it some reasonable reference for his style to better fit into the Dragon Ball Z styling. That's my opinion, at least...

Finished most of the legwork towards the exportation process(shader, skin, folder/file placement, exc.), and did some quick in-game tests to see how he looks outside of 3DS Max...

I still need to give him custom animations, and clean up the rigging here and there, and that's not even mentioning setting up his attacks...
