He just said he couldn't pay and he wanted others to know about it.

It's a joke. But if you really wanted to donate, there is always a way to do it.

@Zeth and MDave
if you guys can't afford the site why did you buy it in the first place
seriously we should look at alternatives like cloud storage

First, Cloud Storage wouldn't serve our needs properly from what little I know of it.
Second, the service that's being used currently more than takes care of our needs, and gives us plenty of room to expand further(good amount of bandwidth, lots of server storage space, which is needed assuming people actually upload their addons here instead of some 3rd party site), cheaper plans don't offer that as much, and definitely not in how this project needs it.
Third, it's a community project, not just Brad's and Dave's. By helping out on the project(whether through official SVN development or unofficial addons), it is our project too, so why shouldn't we help support the site? That's like being half owner in a small business when the rent is due and telling your partner "I don't feel like paying the rent this month, you pay it"...
Fourth, the donations are optional and voluntary, they are not mandatory. If you can't afford to donate, then don't. If you can afford to, then it would be nice that you do send at least something to help support the site, but we're not going to hold a gun to your head and force you. You don't have to donate much, but every bit will be appreciated.

If there is a Walmart (or another large general store) in your country/area, you should be able to go there and purchase either a pre-paid credit card or a paypal card regardless of your age.

Hello and welcome to the forums.
This domain was purchased almost a decade back and has shifted between multiple web hosting packages over the years (all of which we covered costs for). You shouldn't be speechless whatsoever as this has been readily discussed in IRC, on the forums, and has actually occurred already 2 years prior.
As Shenku has stated, maintaining the ZEQ2-lite forums/site is a community service and not one done for the advancement of the project/development team as it was in back on ZEQ2. Asking for optional donations is hardly a travesty.
I don't think you understand what cloud storage is, how it works, or it's relative costs. If you did, you would not propose such a silly thing in comparison to a traditional web server that offers a multitude of services.

I would like to ask how much of the server is actually filled which I already know how much
and according to that do you think such a huge storage is worth it?its all going to waste
besides spending $190 on a free project is insane .and if it's not insane you guys should be able to afford it right.
adds on the site would earn up the revenue required to pay up this amount

yes I agree.....but if you look at it in another way
its necessary and a must because if we don't meet up to the amount the site goes down and no one wants that
I know that we can meet the demands if we try but year after year the donations return .And what happens if we one fine year if we are not able to pay up the amount?
that's why a less expensive site would be better with 3rd party storage

... You do know that it's every two years, correct?
Also, considering that Brad isn't tied down to any one job for long, he does need some cash to pay his own expenses, and I'm sure he and MDave like to spend a bit more for some luxuries, just as many people I know would do the same.
Also, here's a tip for you... Nothing is free. It's just an illusion that society stuffs down your throat.

yes I should nt be speechless as I was here when all this happened 2 years back
by the way Zeth no offense at all but are you employed ?
because if I had a job down here I would easily make $200 per month because here Anything below $200 or RS11,000 is considered below poverty line
even if I saved $10 every month I would make up for the 2 years pay of this site
and my country is so backword and where you live salaries are much more for same job

not really there are people who really want to pay but they can't
and shenku the point real deal was trying to make was that even if Dave or Brad gather half a dollar every day this expense can easily be dealt with , but yes its a community project and it won't hurt to contribute a little

Nothing is going to waste. The amount of data on the server has very little parallel to the amount of data transferred (bandwidth used) or the robustness of the services required and offered. We don't have access to standard apache modules, databases, php, subversion, and multiple user FTP access on a simple file-sharing cloud service.
besides spending $190 on a free project is insane .and if it's not insane you guys should be able to afford it right.
It's not insane. Some people spend hundreds a MONTH on their projects often gathered in full from donations from patrons. $190 every 2 years is extremely CHEAP -- especially when it comes from multiple sources.
adds on the site would earn up the revenue required to pay up this amount
Ads obfuscate site designs, slow down its performance, distract and mislead users, and are downright out-of-place and destructive to flow. Any site operator with a shred of decency to uphold the most basic of viewer principles would never resort to ads.

Our point was that the project isn't FOR Dave or myself thus we should not be the ones in charge of paying its costs. It's a community project, Najeeb. Dave practically doesn't use anything related ZEQ2-lite at all and I'm only here to help others. If you leave it in our hands, we're not the ones getting usage from the project and thus have no purpose for maintaining it.
