Very nice start sir. Glad you joined the ranks and entered the amazing realm of 3D.
You should consider learning how to shape a.okay.a. deform boxes or any other kind of primitive . Try looking for such things known as extrude, cut, inset and so forth and be sure to try moving polygons (that's what the model is made off) around, scaling and rotating. It's a good practice to learn and feel the power of 3D. I hope this will help you, if you have some more questions, be sure to say.
Unfortunately, I am not really good with maya, so I can not give certain directions with good sources, but I tried searching for some sources on youtube and I think this seems pretty reasonable for newstarters.

Autodesk Maya is a great program, it's not as hard as it looks... I watched 2 videos on youtube about tools and textures. The thing you just said "Extrude" I loved that in 3ds Max! Maya is still new to me but I'll keep practicing in the 3D world, I watched a TV series completely made in Maya. Perhaps you heard of it? Star wars The Clone Wars. I was amazed by this movie/TV series, it was stunning.
Edit: Trying to do a room

So... I started practicing(to go more about modelling, to learn stuff, methods... etc...) by modelling a human head. I just began. It's not finished! Not even close to finished But I am learning more and more stuff. I fleaking love modelling!
Some images:
This one is at the start.
These are a little further into it.
I still got tons of work before it's finished.

Those are two different programs, they are both very good but with Maya I think is better Animation
By the way, IvanHoe. Is there a model in SVN in .obj format? I can't open max files in Maya.

Hi Fireman,
Here is steps for how to add it to the game:
1- after you finish modeling save to players file
2- copy default.skin from any previous character tier
3- open it and example you make Batman change details in text file to this BatmanBody
4- copy shader file and open it by notepad and name it to playerBatman and change also details in text file to this
BatmanBody
{
outlines
nomipmaps
{
map players/Batman/BatmanUpper or Batmanbody .png
rgbGen identityLighting
}
{
clampMap players/Bardock/celShadewhitebardock.png
program skip
blendfunc filter
rgbGen lightingUniform
tcGen cel
}
}
5- after change all details in text file save and run the game
6- don‘t forget add for new icon you made it and save it as icon to tier1 and main file as icon_default
batter use misfit model 3D to make a model and save it as md3 format after finish modeling
and this is download link for misfit model 3D and if you need any help send me a email to [email protected] or private massage
and I well make totrail for how I add for charather Super Saiyan hair or Super Saiyan 2 or Super Saiyan 3 or Super Saiyan 4 or Super Mega Ultra Mega Hyper Xtreme (times two) hair for him and how I take Super Saiyan or Super Saiyan 2 or Super Saiyan 3 or Super Saiyan 4 or Super Mega Ultra Mega Hyper Xtreme (times two) hair only from any model by Npherno program

1: you need a shader(scripts)
2: you need a folder(ZEQ2/players) for it where inside
the folder,you will need to have :-
default.grfx(skills)
default.phys(skills)
animation.cfg(animations)
3: you need a tier folder inside the folder
(ZEQ2/players/(player name)
inside you will be needing :-
default.skin
tier.cfg
______________________________________________________
Okay,set up
1: format
- the character must be in .MD3 format(with groups)
- in default.skin, put the groups inside
ex; gokuhead,gokuhead
- there are two "gokuhead" right? the first one is
the group inside .MD3 and the second is for
.shader(scripts)
2: scripts
- now that you have the .skin set up,just copy the
second part of the skin(2nd gokuhead) and paste
it in ZEQ2/scripts/"player name".shader
- do something like this
gokuhead
{
outlines
nomipmaps
{
map players/player/player.png
rgbGen identityLighting
}
{
clampMap effects/shading/"any".png
blendfunc filter
rgbGen lightingUniform
tcGen cel
}
}
3: now you're done..you're character should be in game
oh,don forget the icon..or else you can't see you're
player's icon
if something went wrong,please tell me
