The fact that there are so many classifications of metal and that music sites last.fm show it to be the most popular genre (on the internet), shows to me that it's really quite nerdy.
In fact all the people I know who are metal show these nerdy, antisocial tendencies. So I can almost come to the conclusion that being metal is an expression of embracing this antisocialism and embracing the fact that they have been made outcasts, by dressing differently and shunning everyone and every genre that isn't metal.
This is for me the main reason that it's the only music genre I can't enjoy, because it has so little to do with actually just enjoying good music, and is more about a way of life, "acting" tough and just plain looking like a depressive nincompoop.
Sorry for my rant and I'm not aiming this directly to any of you. Just my view on "metal" and anything related to it.

Well you can enjoy every music, doesn't matter what type it is or if its quality one...
What depends is how you enjoy it...if I listen this ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wfYIMyS_dI ) then I fell while I'm driving but if I listen this ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NpSW0GNkqMI ) then I drive 160 km/h in front of kindergarten

:/
I enjoy metal and I'm not a nerd nor antisocial, I dress like normal people, I like the rest of music genres (unless Justin Bieber and that stuff is considered "music") and I like metal because it sounds cool, I hardly ever listen to the lyrics *intense laughter*...

You live in a small world my friend. Tell me. Did you know that for every 1 metal classification there are 2 jazz classifications. Blues also has a crapload of classifications.
They just aren't all that known, but genres like metal and rock have the least amount of them.

Don't feel bad esfer, I'm talking about the extremes. I'm just against stereotyping yourself. Like some of these diehard metal guys do.
Also Grega, don't feed me that please. Jazz has been around since the 1800's, metal exists, what, 30 years now?
Metal literally has dozens on dozens of genres and subgenres (a quick breeze through wiki can show you that.) and they just aren't different enough from one another to be justified.
There might be some jazz junkies out there, who like to come up with tags for each new sounding jazz artist, but they sure aren't on the internet.
And seriously saying that I live in a small world, because I denounce metal in favor of all other music genres? Ridiculous.
I am though someone who likes to keep it simple, so rap and hiphop is the same to me and so is all metal and jazz. Wanting to overly classify these, is what makes it nerdy.

Not quite what I ment with small world but I get the picture.
As I said before I'm no metal head. I'm punk-rock all the way. But music is not as simple as you make it out to be. Might be just your views, but there is a whole bigger world out there that even I don't know half about.
You should really watch the 7 ages of rock though. You might find it interesting.

I actually saw several episodes of it. Very interesting and entertaining indeed. Mind you that I am just talking about metal and not all of rock. Isn't it funny that metal already is a subgenre of rock in itself.

I was cheking others songs, others bands, etc. I don't care if you don't liked the metal, I don't care if you liked the pop, the hip hop or the others music styles, I just wanna check other songs so... shut the love up and put one fvckin metal song TRL, if you don't wanna put the song so... See, that's exactly my point: 'if you don't like it, go "swear filter" yourself.' Is it because you don't care that you gotta be aggressive? Chill out man.
I'm talking about metal, I don't see the harm in that. No need to go hitler on the exact topic use. It's a discussion, it's not like my word is law. It's not like it's going to stop anyone from posting more metal songs and that wouldn't be what I want anyway. In fact, I would love to be proven wrong and be shown what is good about metal.

1. New thread created asking to post positive thoughts on a subject.
2. TRL chimes in and tears apart concept and idea in a negative manner.
3. Wars erupt.
Hmmm. Where have I seen this pattern at before...
By the way I have a friend who is an active church-going practitioner of spiritual science Quagmire-style ladies man and he only listens to some really hardcore metal. I'd hardly call him a social outcast of any kind as he's pretty involved with the community.
Just because you enjoy a certain type of music or a certain activity, it doesn't automatically classify you in a certain group of people under a certain label; that would be textbook stereotyping.
Also, this topic was NOT about the discussion of Metal's value as a music genre so the entire discussion is completely out of place. This thread's purpose entirely was for representing your favorite songs. Split this discussion into another topic if you'd like to continue.

You have an interesting view on metalheads.
I don't see metal as a way of being antisocial or an outcast to society. I'm a relatively 'normal' teenage guy, I dress normally, and so do most of my friends that enjoy metal. You can enjoy metal and still like other music. I personally like Classical Rock with a bit ouf soul to it. Hip hop isn't really in my good books...I like asian music and a little bit of country. I like a bit of everything except rap and most hip hop.
Metal is my energy provider for when I feel lazy.

Honestly why fight about music in this stereo typic manner ?
you can say that everyone can do this and everyone can do that ! about growling(in metal) Rap(in Hiphop) Autuned voice ( in techno ) castrated boy voice ( POP (Justin bieber) *intense laughter* )
but honestly you can say this about everything!
Music doesn't need to be hard to perform to be good, otherwise all songs would just consist of guitar solos, wouldn't it ?
Also Music is for enyoyment of your ears and doesn't need to be involved with metalheads being wild and outcasts and n1gger rappers having a lot of hoes, honestly.
I began hearing rammstein at a very young age as my father listened to them <.< and when I grew up I later found some liking in metal I began with listening to slipknot and co and later I went into deathmetal and its subgenres and I didn't really act in any stereotypical way, I did dress in black etc but I didn't really do anything of the named things to do as a metal head ...
But well up to pretty resently I listened to this, but later I got tired of metal and kind of stopped drugging it *intense laughter* the thing that was left was the music that played during the animes I whatched *intense laughter*
In other words Japanese music
which is the only thing I still haven't stop liking...
