They haven't even gotten the PlayStation 2 emulator to run problem free.

Are you really expecting to see a PlayStation 3 emulator to actually work within the next couple of years?

Its a lot more likely for the Xbox, since its built a lot more similar to a computer than the PlayStation 3 is. The CPU handling is still an issue though since it behaves differently than the PC. And emulating that would mean you need a computer with at least 4 or even 5 times the specifications of the console.

I guess the best solution would be to create an operating system that acts like the consoles kernel system that you would install. The problem there would be GFX drivers and multi-card support though.

Okay, so with a lot of time, drugs, alcohol and brainwashing, I'm starting to like this game.

Nah, seriously now, Dante doesn't look like a crack addict anymore and... everything else looks fine. The series sure needed a reboot like this.

360 emulation is definitely a lot more plausible than PlayStation 3 emulation. Not likely any time soon, but more plausible. I expect it would require a DX11 class GPU as the 360s GPU has some funky features which I don't think DX10 level hardwarer would be capabe of simulating, but the CPU is fairly standard for a PPC architecture similar to the Wii's CPU which is already emulated successfuly. We just need more power to handle it. An octa-core may do the job.

Emulating a PlayStation 3 would be crazy complex as the nearest thing to SPUs in a PC are the stream processors on GPUs, but wrangling them to do the work of the SPUs would cause serious frame latency issues as PlayStation 3 games have to run very tight scheduling between the PPC threads, SPU jobs and GPU draw calls. Dispatching compute jobs to the GPU and reading the output back on the CPU would mess with this scheduling in a bad way. Handling SPU emulation on a current CPU would be extremely innefficient and slower than using the GPU for them.

On subject, I'm not a fan of Devil May Cry games, but I'm interested in this new one. Ninja Theory are a great developer, I really enjoyed Enslaved, so I'm keeping half an eye on this DmC and will probably pick it up when its out.

Well with the little gameplay trailer they have online I must say that I don't like it. While Dante always had a smart buttocks personality round him, but he was never immature.

With the cutscene from that trailer he talks like an immature punk. so I'm still staying skeptical about his character.

I read once that this new Dante was possibly a citizen of an alternate universe, leaving implication that he could potentially cross paths with the original. However, that could've been a knee-jerk reaction from capcom to address outraged fans.

I haven't been a fan of Devil May Cry in quite some time, so I'm uncertain as to whether or not I read any of that in an article, saw it in a video interview, or even just heard that from a friend.

I will say that I prefer the original, thought that's probably due in part to my being an old expulse now and feeling like his character, design, and style are even less relatable to me than before. I saw the reboot and I'm glad I lost interest!

But I have to agree with you, Grega. The way he presents and carries himself, coupled with the best lines he's given so far, immature punk seems to be the best descriptive I can come up with as well. He seems more like he should be loitering outside a 7/11 after school than being wrapped up in a supernatural war. Hah, sorry for being an oldster about it Razz

I love Devil May Cry. I love the original Dante and all. When the first trailer for DmC came out I was tinkled, but I got over it. The game looks awesome. No one should doubt the game by Dante's looks alone:

It's awesome that you like it, but it's a bit silly to make that statement in such an absolute manner. It's as silly as if I had said "No one should be okay with this game, simply based on Dante's looks alone." The absolutes don't cut it, because for some, a great protagonist can turn a mediocre game into one they'll cherish. A terrible protagonist can equally turn a great game into one that isn't memorable in the slightest. It's just not the same for everyone.

Changing such an iconic(albeit very typical for a Japanese video game) protagonist could easily put someone off. It's not wrong for someone to force the new Dante to earn their respect. Besides, we weren't just talking about his looks(although for me that alone makes him go from typical to more bland than burnt bacon, but that's personal preference, not subjective). His attitude was also called into question.

It could still be an awesome game, but if I have trouble connecting to the character I'm assuming control of, it's a rental at best, and most likely I'd get my fill after just watching some youtube videos.

In my opinion this reboot was necessary. Sure, the old Dante and series were pretty good, however after DMC2 and Justin-bieber-version-of-Dante-saves-the-princess (also known as DMC4) I think a change was necessary, and that's what the guys at Ninja Theory are doing.

The new Dante is nice if you ask me. Different? Yeah, but not necessarily bad. He has a more 'realistic' attitude now.

How is his attitude more realistic. The old Dante was powerful. He knew that, and threw it round as much as he could with taunts. He was an buttocks, but he never out right offensive. His comments and remarks were smart and to the point.

So when I saw the new one going in to a match of who can say "love you" the loudest with a boss in a cut scene I pretty much facepalmed.

If anything he's acting more like Nero from DMC4 based on the videos I saw. He is still strong, but mentally he's an ill-mannered buffoon instead of a smart buttocks.

This Dante grew up without a family, in a slum and being constantly hounded by demons. Do you expect him to be a smexy, polite smartass or something?

Gotta love how people overreact to a scene that shouldn't be considered more than a random moment. This Dante isn't anywhere near polite or well educated, can't he say "love you" once?

I still don't see what's wrong with a videogame character being an ill-mannered buffoon, really.

Nothing. But make a new character instead of redesigning an old one. I'm still open on the game. My current judgment is based on what I saw so far.

As for the other Dante. His past is similar to the new one. They didn't change that much. Hunted by demons, mother murdered and so on.

Now I can see an alternate reality, where he becomes an enraged emo kid, but state that in the slam trailers or you risk loosing a crapload of people who liked the original.

Besides. When did Dante have any manners? He always was a smart buttocks. But his manners pretty much appeared as "I can do this, so I will"

I like that they are going for a darker tone, but it would probably be better, if they switched the character to Virgil. Since that attitude is more his style and tell the story of how he became the control fruitcake we all love from DMC3.

And just a general side note. What is everyones problem with Nero? Ignoring his 3 or 4 wuss moments, he makes for a nice character, not to mention his interactions with Dante are pretty comical.

I was always skeptical about reboots, especially when such complex characters are replaced with shallow ones, they don't stand out for their style/originality like the old ones.Look at these awesome dialogues:
"You beautimus sack of stuff!"
"Who the love are you?!!"
"Son of Sparda, and Eva, the whooooreeeee!"
"love you!"
"love you!"
"love youuuuu!!!"Obviously better than anything the original developers could ever have come up with! I honestly don't know who they're trying to appeal to here. The game is rated "M for Mature", yet the dialogue sounds something a bunch of middle schoolers would spout at each other.

We are not only talking abour Dante here,Vergil one of the most badass villan is now a blonde, college-prep, panzy pretty boy,and that only adds fuel to fire.

Gameplay is noting new,nor inovative,so I it will be hard to fill this big holes in games appearance.
Just compare this:

The issue really isn't with that it's with altering the character that everyone's already familiar with. You can have your profanity, but you can also have a little class about you, as well. Take away the class, and you're just vulgar and unpleasant.

It also depends on what you liked about Dante. For some, all you see are two guns, a sword, and demon powers. For others, there was attitude, sure, but it was an attitude that was also worn with enough class to balance it out. And a lot of what I like about the old Dante and dislike about this new kid is probably a generational thing. Where I grew up, even saying that to someone got you jumped by everyone else in the room, and it's a built-in reflex for me to automatically wish that would happen to the person uttering it every time I hear it. (Imagine how hard it is for me in this day and age to have a conversation with someone without instinctively wondering why they haven't been pummeled, haha!)

On a simpler note, it's like turning Goku into a kid again. Sure, it's more Goku and everybody likes more Goku, but that doesn't make it automatically good. You got people that love GT, and people that dislike it.

ESFER25 wrote : I still don't see what's wrong with a videogame character being an ill-mannered buffoon, really.

There's nothing inherently wrong or right about it. Again, it's all about taking an icon then taking away what made it iconic. Dante had class. Dante had style. Now this Dante seems like one of the teenagers that got busted making meth in my county a couple weeks back, even looks a ton like 'em. It's not a big difference to you, but it could be a huge difference to others. Either way, non of it's subjective at that point Razz

I do agree that the series had gotten stale, perhaps to the point that a reboot WAS necessary. However, I would have opted for almost anything besides altering the one thing about my series that makes it stand out. I'm going to have to say that for me, the only way I'm comfortable with this kid is in an alternate reality scenario. Still, the developers knew that new Dante would have to prove himself, so I'll wait and see.

I don't prefer this direction, but it was a gutsy move and I'd love to see more developers take bigger risks, just not THIS particular type Razz
