Typical engine.

Earth Special Forces.

----

The renderer is very clearly one of the most pertinent aspects of defining any engine. There are many projects out there that only did MINOR changes to the rendering layer of an engine and still respected the notion of not flagging themselves under the same title.

Are the rendering feats of xReal possible in Quake 3? Of course not. It'd be ludicrous to say or mislead people into thinking it was still Quake 3. Is it derived? Absolutely. This is exactly how xReal is presented to the public along with many other decedents of Quake.

Utility functions and language port aside, GoldSrc was essentially Quake with renderer changes yet the engine's name was altered. You've changed this very default renderer almost in entirety (more than they did!).

Do it justice and label Earth Special Forces properly as its own entity rather than soaking up misdirected buzz under the guise of being GoldSrc for the sake of publicity alone.

okay correct me if I'm wrong, but applying something and editing it for personal use is called "Customization" and as such we have a customized shader. that aside nowhere in our news update do we state that the shader is custom or created from scratch. It is new in Earth Special Forces though so if the term "We are using a new shader" is what you misinterpreted, then I'm sorry for using vague sentences like that.

Additionally, we don't claim that Earth Special Forces is GoldSRC, we say that we use GoldSRC, and that we in fact do.

When we talk about Earth Special Forces we always say we are USING GoldSRC. And when ever anyone asked, we always said it was a hacked GoldSRC, implying it's not the original GoldSRC.

But if you want to argue semantics, then you can might as well go to Valve arguing that GoldSRC should be called Source (its first official name) and the new Source engine be called something else.

So please don't jump on words people use without checking the source update yourself.

Because in the news update

For the past few weeks Ryokeen has been hard at work adding and optimizing shaders for Earth Special Forces. One of the latest additions is a wave generator. The new shader gives Earth Special Forces environment artists the option to add ocean like water to maps.

During initial tests the ocean shader has shown a performance increase over the older "flat" water shader. The system uses a grid of approximately 50K polygons to generate the waves. This can be reduced to meet the performance requirements of lower-end machines. Also, the system implements a level of detail system that increases the amount of detail a player sees the closer they get to the water.

I can not see hide or tail of us claiming we created something new that was never done before. I only see 1 sentence saying we added a new shader to Earth Special Forces, which doesn't mean it was created from scratch.
