If you leave it in our hands, we're not the ones getting usage from the project and thus have no purpose for maintaining it.
Wow......no one is ill-advised enough to believe that
that's really bad manipulation dude
no real deal he is correct , it is we who need the forums not them , and they are not getting any profit from it , and its their favor that they are working for us

It only seems that way if you really have no idea about what's going on...
What Brad's saying is true. How often do you really see Dave around? He's not the one chugging down bandwidth. And how much does Brad try to guide and go out of his way to help others advance when they've got the time and are willing to put forth the effort?
Seriously. Due to this project, some of us have advanced in skill. Some of us have made friends. Some of us have begun to do amazing things. Some of us have even split off and begun to create separate projects!
If you don't want to donate, don't. But no need to stand on a soapbox tossing negatives just to make yourself feel better about it. I can safely say that if I were in the shoes of Brad or Dave, I'd have given up LONG ago, and none of this would be there. I'm, quite thankfully, not. And it's all still here.
I almost never respond in memes, but seriously, this time it just feels appropriate:

Right... because I'm the one that authors the donation threads...
Anyway, classic "I'm rubber, you're glue" rebuttal. Awesome. Anyway, have your soapbox, eat it, too, if you wish, and I'll not say anything else besides these two items(just for your consideration):
1) If you aren't happy with how things are, you don't have to be here. None of us do
2) Do you often just walk into a scenario, glance around quickly, assume you know EVERYTHING, and then spout off like a baby with an upset stomach?

Najeeb, this is going to be like talking to a wall. There really isn't anything more to say here. Besides, the site defends itself. It's obviously valuable to some, or they wouldn't come here. I'm confident that there are plenty willing to help.

And another thing. RealDeal, do you think that if you donate you donate ONLY for the forums? You donate for SVN if I am not mistaken. So, without this there literally wouldn't be ZEQ2lite. At least not like you are used to it.
Edit: And if you think that Brad and Dave SHOULD pay for this themselves EVEN if it took them only a penny a day, you are SADLY mistaken. They DO NOT profit out of this, so it's not really their obligation to pay for it.

You don't face banning. This is a discussion and everyone is stating their side of the story. So now, with that in mind, would you please give a contra-argument to my argument?

You don't get it do you.. There isn't a team assembled that will release things! If the SVN is gone, then all updates will be gone as well.

It is a bit tough to convey tone across text sometimes, but I wasn't implying that anyone should leave, just that no one is obligated to be here if they aren't happy with how things are.
Trust me, I'd prefer if we all got along like the best of friends, had the same vision for the future, got together and had "Black Adder television hour" every Wednesday, and there weren't squabbles like this
The fact is, this is the best option for what WE(all of us as a community) have at present. I have no doubt that Brad, Dave, and probably others looked into various alternatives before just settling on something.
There really isn't a reason for any of us(myself included) to defend or criticize what's being asked. After all, it was only being asked, not demanded. The situation simply is what it is.

I find your attitude toward Brad and MDave offensive Realdeal. I see it's mustered by ignorance, but then it's up to you to do something about that situation. Not throw your eyes towards the sky and exclaim "I don't wanna know!".
Besides, you being in the top 5 posters on this forum. You really should feel obliged to help out, using up so much bandwith.
Finally there's the point that many have made, that in no way it should be Brad and Dave's responsibility to save up (because it's such a low amount in your eyes). They don't have to maintain this forum and make releases possible. They were fine many years being underground. But then of course we would lose your valid opinions, you might budge them to reconsider..

And the funny thing is, only you, RealDeal, seem to have a problem with all this.

You have a problem with strictness. I'm expressing the truth about this matter in this manner. There's not a single offensive term in there. You ARE ignorant about why these voluntary donations make sense. And for being here so long, you don't know half of the inner workings of this organization.
If you want me to be offensive. You're probably the biggest leech around here. You have contributed nihil, zilch, nada. And now you're making a fuss over people who do want to help! Crawl in your shell and hide..

whoah RD.. Did someone say donating was compulsary?
Besides without these forums I'd never have known about the various things regarding game development. And about the alternatives hosting and as such, I think Brad knows of all the possibilties and he knows what's best for this site and community.

RealDeal, even though you said that you created your website for the profit of the people, did it cost you money? And if it did, was it a one-time payment? The issue here is, you volunteered to benefit others, while this site here is more like others volunteering to benefit themselves.
There is a distinct and fundamental difference here. There are those who expect information and content to be provided to them, and those that intend to earn information and content.
You have seen those new guys asking for links and asking really odd questions or creating over-the-top random topics, correct? Those people resemble those that expect things to be given to them, just like your site encourages.
Wouldn't you want so many more people that knew how to think in the world rather than the kids that run around the web spouting trash into their posts?
After you created your yolasite, eventually you would stop maintaining it for various reasons. But you find that others do not want it to die. You can't just leave the site up, because there would be no way to keep it up to date, and you have no choice but to pass the torch to another reliable web user. The new admin appointed by you now has an obligation to maintain the site, but he/she can't always rely on you to get the latest info on Dragon Ball Z games, because you have a life that doesn't allow for much online interaction.
The case is similar here. Brad and MDave no longer have an interest in maintaining the site, because they get nothing out of it. We, the community, are the new admins (not literally), and we must improve ourselves and explore new concepts. If we want to continue to improve in this most favorable environment, we must have some way to maintain it. Brad and MDave can't always be relied on; they aren't our support beam that we are tied to, they are crutches to support us until we can walk on our own. They give us guidance, not assistance, unless you count asking questions that let us know exactly what steps are needed to take. They don't hold our hand as we develop 3D models.
Also, I plan on getting a little job pretty soon, and I'll set aside some money to donate to the site. I don't want this place to fall apart.
