Oh come on, next you'll say Monty Python is not funny either.
I've found people who actually don't have that level of absurd humour. Who need more direct, laugh track kind of humor to find something funny. It's usually women though. They don't get what's funny about indirect subtle situation humor. Although Monty Python has all kinds of humor, I sometimes do associate it (and other Biscuits comedy like the original office) with a more intellectual form of humor.
I was going to comment along these lines myself, TRL. I had an awkward experience with the contrast of these two types of humor in a college communication skills class.
It seems like some people really have to develop a taste for some of the more subtle or indirect humor (I don't want to just call it intellectual, since it leaves me unable to classify the other end of the spectrum in an inoffensive way).
I can't blame someone for not wanting to, since the only way I can think of acquiring a taste for that "thuggy" humor is some sort of brain-washing experiment gone wrong, but man, it sure does make it hard to relate when each person's primary sense of humor is either awkward, discomforting, or just plain bland to the other person
All in all, I love TFS. But if everyone loved the exact same thing in the exact same way, this world wouldn't be so much fun.
There are a ton of cultural, age, and intellectual differences here. We don't necessarily HAVE to debate out everything to what is best. In all honesty, I thought TFS would be lacking when I first started watching it, mainly because I never liked the way the original Dragon Ball/Dragon Ball Z combined silly and serious. Did I need more silly from a series I primarily watched for everything BUT?
After watching it, though, the only comedic anticipation buildup that is more severe than waiting for a new TFS episode has been waiting for the new season of Futurama(Where poop jokes and intellectual humor collide)!!!

Why is it "thuggy"? I like that he sounds like stereotypical black...(well kind of since I sorta sound like that at times *laughing out loud*) but it has nothing to do with being a thug. I like Weeklytuubeshow2 because the dialogue is funny....that's it.
^...and that's some questionable sheat up there Nello...

"Thuggy" was just shorter than typing "thug mentality" and I'm not sure I want to call it "stereotypical black" as a basis for a label. The rest of my post, though, was actually just to chime in that there wasn't anything wrong with Najeeb(or anyone else) preferring the videos linked in this thread over TFS, like TRL had said.

I should really start using tags when I'm making jokes it would seem.
The monty python thing was a joke aimed at different tastes in humor. I used Monty Python since they are pretty much the most controversial to the kind of humor mostly depicted in those Dragon Ball Z videos.
No need to start a full blown discussion because of it (though I am kind of used to that in this place)
Now listen to Vegeta sing

There is absolutely nothing funny about being a black stereotype... There just isn't.
You should have seen me back in Cali; I was a tourist attraction there... VERY demeaning. The WORST part was that I wasn't even trying.
Although, I can agree that WeeklyTubeShow does it very well by only limiting it to Kami and Piccolo so far. He means well... Not to mention the guy's just a versatile voice actor. His Goku voice will have you in stitches. In my opinion, it sounds better than MasakoX. Well, because he sounds just like Sean Schemmel... TFS could learn a thing or two from him, though their quality is just... THAT much higher.

I hear that. Same thing with me at art school...it's like 70 percent white, and all the black people (like 10 of them including me *laughing out loud*...) are instantly "cool" and a lot of stereotypical things are expected of them.
BUT anyway....I won't make this discussion last any longer than it needs to.
Vegeta singing...again.Loves Goku to death.

I think you both are refering to what is normally known as dry humor, which is commonplace in the UK, but less here in the states.
DarkPrince wrote : I think you guys are thinking too hard about it. Grega wrote : No need to start a full blown discussion because of it (though I am kind of used to that in this place)
There's always a need to analyze and discuss. If not, what would even be the purpose of HAVING forums? Superficial squabbling and [dis]agreements are non-productive. Information sharing could be better accomplished through a news outlet. No, forums are ALL about in-depth discussions like these.
Why is it "thuggy"? I like that he sounds like stereotypical black...(well kind of since I sorta sound like that at times *laughing out loud*) but it has nothing to do with being a thug "Thuggy" was just shorter than typing "thug mentality" and I'm not sure I want to call it "stereotypical black" as a basis for a label.
The fact that the Nameks are portrayed with an ebonic dialect and frieza/others with cliche stereotypes isn't what really constitutes the "thug-like" mentality in the sense that I was describing -- although it's not a great form of depiction or presentation either!
What I'm referring to is the constant usage of street-slang-typed violence and overly-sexual communication on otherwise topically irrelevant subjects. Basically you just take any character from ANY series and have them talk about genitals, sexual exploits/prowess, or smacking someone in the back of the head and you have created this style of humor. It's not complex (requires no critical thinking), extremely overplayed in practically every medium, and often not even a fitting portrayal or comical form of satire based on (even skewed!) relatively to the original concept.
It's done without purpose, without allusion, and without substance.

@Goldenwarrior: that's such an awesome song! feel really pumped now!
@Darkprince: have to admit, I'd probably treat you the same way too. But that's because black people are extremely rare here in Belgium. Except for Brussels but there they mostly come straight out of Africa as fugitives. I'd let you join my cool guy gang just because of my fondness for hip hop and rap music and nba basketball. I'd probably also expect you to be good at basketball and try to beat your buttocks!
@Jay: so you're saying you actually knowingly act stereotypical? Well you can just decide to stop doing that you know. First step: dropping the "reezy" from your username.
@Grega: Exactly like Brad said, isn't that the case for any forum or by extension the internet? Every topic gets blown out! The term going off topic is actually pretty ironically funny to me, because it's basically guaranteed to happen every time.
Also What do you mean by monty python "being controversial to" tfs humor? Do you mean "opposite/contrary to" perhaps?
@Aravind: we will when you spell funny and videos right. Which is never! Bahahaha

TRL wrote : @Jay: so you're saying you actually knowingly act stereotypical?
No, never... As a matter of fact. The first thing my scholars compliment me on is being well-spoken(or, soft-spoken; I can't remember which). However, in California, everyone always hated me because I didn't act as they planned. So I didn't have many friends... They always urged me to say lines from movies that they couldn't say because their voices weren't deep enough. I wasn't having any of it, of course...
TRL wrote : Well you can just decide to stop doing that you know. First step: dropping the "reezy" from your username.
Funny, the idea of "Jay" and "REEZy" in my username was actually spawned when I was around 13 years old. Made strictly out of fun, and since nobody had ever given me a decent nickname besides: "Andre the Giant", or "Daddy Long Legs." I thought my name was nearly improbable to make a nickname out of. So, on impulse, I came up with "JayREEZy". I literally thought the idea was SO great, that when I joined an online group for the first time, that HAD to be the name I used. It wasn't meant to sound like a rapper; just to sound like a pun on my first and last name.
The idea of the ghetto spin on the named formed because I wanted people to know in their heart I was black, but wonder why I spoke/typed so well *intense laughter*
Back then I wasn't very informed; the named has been used by many people already. I just haven't felt like changing it

I never mentioned TFS humor. I was talking about the videos where every second word would probably get filtered on national TV.
And yes thank you I mean opposite ^^
