People who leave for that reason are not worth having around anyway.

Developing games takes time. The next release is not just going to be a few more characters and a couple of new maps, but a substantial update to the actual game and the engine as well. These features were mostly unconsidered back when Public Beta 1 was released so the original thoughts on a release schedule have since gone out the window.
The fact of the matter is no one knows when Public Beta 2 will be released, there is no date or schedule. It will be released when the new features are stable and the build is deemed to be at release quality. We don't know when this will be because we are working on this in our spare time and all have other commitments, so we can't work on it every moment we desire.
The reason for people to stay is not that "a new version is coming out soon!" but to be part of the community, learn to make addons and generally enjoy theirselves in discussions with other users. No one is forcing anyone to stick around and whether anyone stays or leaves is entirely up to them.
As Zeth has stated on many occasions, this is a contribution based project. There is no "team" in a typical manner, anyone is allowed to contribute if they have the ability and want to help get things done quicker.

Basically, do a bunch of fan made addons while the team finishes up on their other projects, then MAYBE they'll think about making some actual progress on ZEQ2-Lite, I think there should be at least a small update on what you've all been doing these last 6 months.

Any update now would just be codewise (bug fixes etc.) and I doubt many are really jumping up and down to get that. The content update is not ready yet.

*double facepalm*
Despite all of the threads explaining how the development cycle of open-source projects work, I'm shocked to still see more frequently visiting users like TheXenon and najeeb still asking/theorizing about such a subject.
Here. Let me just spin you a new blunt (but partially fabricated) perspective to help you grasp things better.
There is absolutely NO organized group working on ZEQ2-lite. There is NO team. There are NO developers. There is NO ONE working on anything outside of the forum contributors. There will NEVER be any kind of "official" progress. If you do not like this idea, you do not have to be involved in these forums -- there'd simply be no logical reason.
ZEQ2-Lite's goal when releasing was NEVER to be continued and/or updated by the original contributors. You, as a user, have all of the tools and methods necessary to take the project anywhere. Therefore, the only active developer for the project is YOURSELF. As far as this conversation is concerned, there was never ANY intention to update and develop the project over time, there was never ANY commitment/plan to work as a cliché design team, and there was most certainly no plan to cater the design and progress in ANY to a group of followers.
It is simply NOT a project that was designed to be watched from the shadows, hoping for newer/greater things. If anyone desires improvements and new things, they should be picking up a hammer and getting involved.
If you feel the desire to point fingers and question/complain, you have no one but yourself to target. Frankly, I'm quite shocked you haven't done anything at all in these 6 months! I mean, come on. Why haven't you finished code fixes or at least did a few new features, brolly3310? Gosh, why haven't you finished Brolly yet, najeeb? We've been waiting for like forever.
This is the Internet. You have the right to say and speak whatever you think -- regardless of how mindless, trivial, or oblivious to facts your statements might be. However, at the end of the day, if you actually want to see new things with THIS project, YOU are going to have to be the one to step up and have some involvement.
ABSOLUTELY any other approach at handling this will result in ZERO positive impact and be perceived as an impeding and intentional attempt to slow down progress.

Then WHY is there a team build? Seems like the "there is no team" thing is just an excuse to be working slow and half assed along with the "we have other projects and commitments"
There's no reason to be holding back all those other characters and maps if you aren't "official" and aren't a development team.
Might as well release that content to us players if you aren't a team.
If you guys aren't a team then why doesn't everyone have access to the team build and have administrative
capabilities along with being able to moderate the IRC and forums.
Honestly there has to be a difference between the people who do have a team build other than, they contributed to the open beta.
In my opinion contributing to an open beta would mean contributing to a team of developers. Except for the fact that you keep on insisting that there is NO team.
To me and a lot of others it sure as heck looks like there is a team.
And as for Najeeb, disregard anything he says he's just that guy who agree's with other people and doesn't have his own opinion.

this makes nonsense at all
.............
Zeth I'm I'm with TheXenon 100%, you devs or admins whatever should release. if you guys aren't official, then players can have some new stuff to work with I'm not trying to provoke anything but what you guys are doing makes no sense unless you guys just don't wanna release (but I think that's a little selfish)
or since you guys aren't working then you should often release a little bit of the team build every once in a while for players like myself who want to be involved and want to work with new models and such... at first I thought the project was just postponed and that's why I was waiting so patiently but I see now that you made it clear enough that there is no team,
and there is no progress ...so I say why not just release to the public, maybe that would inspire young moders to wanna do more but that's just my opinion you don't have to do anything.. it would just be better off if you release so that players can start making the teambuild better for them selves if you understand what I mean, and why didn't you guys tell user's that there was no team, and that no one was working on the team build till now?!?!?!?.. legendsspeed was right (kind of) if he didn't make this thread then who would? If you guys were holding out and just making people think there was going to be a Public Beta 2 why didn't you guys from the first release of zeq2lite say that "this project will not have any progress,or that any progress made with this beta will be user progress if any"? I'm super disappointed.. and also users are getting bored with user contents such as addons some users don't wanna wait for players to release things on there own time you Dev's are supposed to be role models for users like myself(corret me if I'm wrong) but showing know progress makes us not show any... me myself have been doing a lot of character edits for the public..I think its fair to say that some users have re;lease more than you devs have .. but onnce again its you teambuild so do what you want

No, we won't be releasing the private build. Like Brad, Alex, and even MDave (who mentioned this in the New Years post) said, you, too, are a part of the development of the mod. Instead of sitting there waiting for something to be released, start learning, and if you already know how to create content, get to it so you can see the release of Public Beta 2.
And no, we won't be releasing the private build to "inspire" people. Earth Special Forces's modding community flourished during the earlier Alpha and Beta days, and they pretty much got what you guys have now, despite the lack of characters and levels. Earth Special Forces Alpha was very, very unpolished and it still got the community to get into modding. Some of the current team members started to mod during the Alpha days, and look at how skilled they are now.
Anyways, what I'm saying is, if you want Public Beta 2 to be released, go ahead and start creating content. The development of the mod doesn't just rely on the people who have contributed thus far, it relies on your dedication and motivation. And if you really wanted to get into modding, then you would've gotten into it by now. ZEQ2 Lite is easily moddable, it's much easier to add characters compared to what you have to do to add them in Earth Special Forces, so please don't complain about the lack of content that doesn't "inspire" you to mod.

Yawn. Ever think that people hmm maybe just want to play the loving game and not be a part of development? Maybe they wanna just play the game to have some fun and not have modeling and mapping consume 3/4 of their time, also think that 1 map and 3 characters gets a little boring for the people who just want to play a GAME?
Not everyone who plays this game and wants to see an update/release has to be a a part of game development.

Not everyone who plays this game and wants to see an update/release has to be a a part of game development. Never said they did. All we're saying is, instead of sitting there demanding for updates on ZEQ2Lite, either sit there patiently and be quiet, or help the development of the mod out.

We don't want people to become modellers, we're just throwing out the fact that the development of ZEQ2Lite relies on you guys. Like Brad said, the original goal was just to release ZEQ2Lite, not continue or update it. But you guys have a chance to continue the development of ZEQ2Lite by contributing to it.

I can't speak for Brad and Dave here, but I don't think we're striving towards having edited models put into future releases.
