It's just simply unappealing to me. Anty doesn't like it either. Just an aesthetic thing.
Probably the big rectangle drawing attention like you said. Before it was nice and subtle. You possible also changed something about the typography, but I can't put my finger on it for sure. Wasn't it italic and not all upper case before?

Haha that's cool! I'm pretty sure Toriyama did have something to do with every important character even in gooey insides or movies. He designed cooler, Brolly and so on. The story was primarily left to the scenarist of toei, but he did input some of his ideas.

You should have seen it already in dragonball online too.
He features like that all the time in his Dr. Slump manga and he also is a character like that in 2 games! Blue dragon and Tobal.
