As always, the problem relies on Microsoft's own integrated drivers, which then comes pre-installed with Windows Vista and/or 7. Updating it always helps. Had numerous occasions where I TeamViewer-ed few persons with similar problems, and the result, well.. Outdated, OpenGL driver-less.. driver?

The problem is ATI not a OpenGL friend card, and that's why in Vista/Windows 7 you need the latest ATI driver/DX, and because Quake 3/Half-Life based games mostly use OpenGL.

Not entirely accurate. The GPU's do have adequate OpenGL support. But it so happens that the drivers (either the Microsoft one or ATI one's) don't come with decent OpenGL mini-installable-client. Which that enables full hardware powered OpenGL functionality.

I don't have any ATI graphic card.
The game was running smooth in vista. don't know what happened in win 7!!!!!!

Gladly I don't have problems with these stuffs anymore. Driver installation is seamless and just one or two click away.
It dramatically improved my life quality, that's for sure.

I have to agree with Nemix on this one, I always teached myself by encountering problems, and then searching or googling for the solution until I got it done. And if I really didn't saw a way out to fix it by myself, then I asked help to other people. But if you always rely on someone else to fix it, you'll never learn something.
