If I'm reading that question right, then no. You need a legitimate full version of Half Life for it to work. Just buy it off Steam, it's only $10, so it's not that expensive...

You need to get Steam it's Free
www.steampowered.com
However you need a credit card or paypal account
you need at least 10$ to buy Half-Life
In order to play Earth Special Forces you need a legal copy of Half-Life 1 not Half-Life 2, Earth Special Forces won't work with illegal or torrent Half-Life 1
I just woke up mehehee he *laughing out loud*

*laughing out loud* it cost £5 on steam version for the UK.
But I am too lazy to waste a Fiver (5 quid) on Half Life.

I think it's good what Earth Special Forces did, with the verification system, keeps out all of the spoiled brats, which we have an abundance of sadly.

It doesn't make anything better, when the new Earth Special Forces will be released, there will be always gummy bears to get hl1 illegaly and play it without support from the team (like me )
But if they sell the game, it would be something else, they can maybe create a system to detect pirated versions....but there will be always hackers to prevent that

So the police should stop working too, because there will always be robbers?
That's exactly the kind of screwed up mentality I'm talking about.

don't make false constatations, I said there will be always hackers, but I didn't say that they would give up working because of that

Actually we are planning a system that with a few changes could lock out of the game anyone who doesn't have a valid STEAM ID.
But that would be to much work, so we will stick with the authentication system.

Making protection for a free game? - don't see the point
And don't tell me it's not free because it is (seeing posts about that just makes me laugh)

Exactly
Making Earth Special Forces "not-free" needs approval, in other words buying a license which is a lot more expensive then fried chicken (not explaining this to you Grega)

Well yeah Earth Special Forces is free
but you need to buy HL1
I played 1.2.3 with illegal HL1 for 2 years
But then I got serious and bought HL1 as sign of my gratitude to the Earth Special Forces's developers.
