By finding what killed it. And if its a fried sound card, then you need to buy a new one.
There are 2 things you can do.
1.) Check all windows and sound settings and drivers for proper functioning and setup.
2.) In case of a PCI sound card, try to disconnect it and plug it back in. It works some times.
And finally if the guy was using a vacuum cleaner to clean your computer, never let him touch it again.
