Why not make this original, and instead of making the characters from the show make a character creator. You could make the body parts, lower body parts and heads from the existing characters and add some more, categorize them by races like Alien, Namek, Saiyan, Human, Android. Then, you would choose your own powers, some powers being limited to certain races like Destructo Disk for humans Razz. Well, it'd add customization and originality to the game as well as differ it from the other ones.

It's not that bad of an idea. We've had worse. But I have no idea how we'll get that ingame.

Personally, I've considered this very idea, but imediately discarded it due to the complexity involved in doing it.

Accuracy issues aside, the major problem is this would rely on much more uniform animations and bone structures across all character models. Every model would need to have every animation, and every animation would need to match correctly with each separate part of the model, or you end up with terrible distortions in the overall character.

The one solution I can think of off hand would be a method mentioned long ago about implementing a bone system in the game engine itself(Can't remember what thread it was, but this was several years ago, and the idea might have been scrapped), but then we would need to rerig every current model to match this new bone system.

Additionally, not all current models would be compatible with a single bone setup, so additional bone structures would need to be set up for different physical builds. I.E. one bone structure for massive Nappa type bodies, one for average human(Goku) bodies, another for semi-short Vegeta types, and another for midget types(Kid Gohan, or Krillin), not to mention potentially more, depending how ellaborate you want to go.

As you can see, the animation requirements add up fast, as you would need to rework animations for virtually every bone structure, and model rigs would need to be perfectly done every time to prevent animation problems as a whole, not to mention syncronization concerns in making certain every bone system is animating the same frames at the same speed/rate/length to prevent "glitchyness" with the animation sequences.

Long story short, it's a lot of extra effort to add a minor feature that only a handful of people would be interested in, so it's not really worth doing.

Its actrually a great idea and not improbable if ZEQ2 actually had used the updated Q3TA engine rather then the standard engine.

Jedi Academy says enough. ALso, Its a lot simplyer then you think it is. Otherwise there wouldn't be tons of costum races you can edit for JA. (Bare in mind the single modder who did one of the huge packs actualyl only did it without a week or so) which had the possibility of 999 varying models/skins costumizable with clothes head type etc.

All you would need is different sprites, and face/hairstyles/clothestyles/colours ea.

That doesn't change the fact that a lot of the current systems would need to be scrapped or re-written entirely. It might sound easy, but in practice it's actually not.

Anyways, the main difference is they developed their game to have those kinds of features to begin with, ZEQ2 Lite was not.
