Got the basic shape down now.
Onto adding details to the face and folds.
Also to the team: There probably needs to be a animatable mouth, right? Any tips on how I make one?

Not much criticizing going in here, but I guess that's a good thing.

Update with details on the torso and arms.

Really I don't see anything wrong with it there for I cannot criticize although I probably can't find any flaws because I am untrained in this work.

Thanks for the comments guys.

Detailing is definitely the most time consuming part.
I added folds and details to the face. Tell me if the folds work.

I feel like I'm almost there, with the modeling at least. Just the pants need more details.

the folds look pretty good, the torso really looks great now.

if you want some criticism, the proportions from the side view looks a little strange, I think he need to be a little taller and skinner waist....either the heads too small or the necks to large. His palms are too big you can see them sticking out pretty far.

if your planning on animating the face your edge flow isn't exactly done properly, for best deformations you want your edge flow circling away from your mouth and eyes...although in this case it might not make much of a difference since facial animation will be pretty basic and won't be seen too often...facial animation is really easy to do, look up blend shape animation.

one other thing, you want to add extra faces in areas that will bend so they stretch properly during animation...elbows, knees, and knuckles

just something simple like this:

Wow lonno! That's some great criticism right there! I'll look into all of that.

That's a bad (as in old) method of modelling knee & elbow joint areas (though I do agree its good for knuckles considering how small they usually & unnoticeable are). The back verts will collapse when the bone bends. A better way would be to just have three complete edgeloops and blend the weights across the bones, which allows the volume of the area to be better maintained.

The "wedge" method as you showed used to be what everyone recommended, but that was back in the days of player models being less than 1000 polygons, it cut down on about a dozen polygons from each joint area so it had major benefits.

These days, as polygon counts can be much higher it's best to create such areas in a more complete manner.

Update on the legs. And some small fixes here and there on the face and hair.

Also I have some smoothing groups issues in the area around the mouth. Mainly because I used the animatable mouth of ZEQ2-lite's Goku and when it's closed there are faces overlapping eachother. Can anyone provide me a drawover of how to fix this?

I'm guessing 3Ds Max?

TRL View user's profile Send private message

Reply with quote Tuesday, November 24, 2009

Yes that's 3D studio max.

And don't worry Malek, Yamucha will have everything he needs. From controllable spirit ball to Wolf Fang Fist. I'm thinking of making the wolf fang fist like Goku's hand push, but aimed forward and with a little howl sound and wolf sprite! Wink

But I'm nowhere close to that part yet.

I only just now started using it again. It was about 3 years since I last used it. I only have ever finished 2 other models before. And they weren't that good. This is the first time I'm really paying attention to detail.

Wait I'll show you my first 2 models:

I'd like to think I made some progress since then.

Shocked that Tenshinhan looks so familiar, did you do it for Earth Special Forces?

It didn't get ingame, but I posted it on the Earth Special Forces forums, so that might be where you know it from.

Your models and devs ones are nearly alike
You have a great future in ZEQ2 TRL Wink

The model is pretty much finished. Only the hair still needs some work and I have to make the joints animatable.
Next step is UV mapping, but I'm not very good at that.
