I've had this problem many times... Does anyone know what it means? This occurs while players are popping up on the loading screen. ZEQ2-Lite closes after I answer the popup.
Z_Malloc failed on allocations of 16777240 bytes from the main zone.

Try opening ZEQ2 Dedicated before playing, I forgot once and I felt like an leaping lizard afterwards.

Malloc relates to memory allocation. I'm fairly certain that Quake 3's system sets a predetermined amount of memory to be used by the game for different aspects. This is defined by the com_hunkmegs cvar in the console/configs. If additional files are attempted to be loaded and allocated beyond this pre-set amount, you'll typically fall back to the menu.
I will say that I'm not that savvy on lower level languages where memory management is manual. Malloc may just relate to dynamic allocation of variables rather than preset allocation, but it's likely still influenced by your hunkmegs limit. If that's the case, this would explain and relate to the issue in the above paragraph.
