Do you have any wind or drag forces being applied to it or are is currently just shifting the verts arbitrarily with a simple wave function?

I think the waves are to bubbly and not upwards enough. Because this would probably be used while charging and then ki flows upward.

Also that Goku is pretty fugly.

Okay I'll try something else: Goku looks like a muppet.

I don't think it really matters though, he wasn't showing of the model just the vertex shader, which looks neat.

Looks like a simple noise offset shader applied to the vertex positions. Not a bad idea overall to pull off cheap wind effects as you could easily adjust the turbulence intensity.

The Goku isn't that bad, but the stepped-shader needs some work as it currently has a soft falloff between steps. The model/textures are likely unfinished as well.

it has 2 parameters. waves speed and waves scale (x,why,z).
it hasn wind direction paramater but it is very similar effect if you variate the scale.

I know it is not the best way but I think it's better then using bones.

I don't disagree with you on that. Using bones for something like this would be extremely wasteful. Even layering on a vertex animation with a pre-computed noise deformation wouldn't be quite as flexible or varied.

A noise-based vertex shader is pretty much the way to go if you want to keep the effect cheap, quick to implement, and easily reusable/stackable.

I like the desert map best so far.

The Goku model does indeed need more work.

And the kami map took a liberty with some of the details. Like for instance the 2 buildings behind the main one. They look weird.

Goku and aura isn't good, but maps looks great. ZEQ2 have the best aura ever made in Dragon Ball games.
