Intriguing, quite like a riddle, and while I can't be blunt (many 12-14 years olds here)
I'd say that its a matter of which "guy" here in question, assumed his partner as the girl in what essentially seems like an online/long distance relationship, and played the part of the opposite sex accordingly.
In doing so, both seemed to have assumed the other as the girl here, and its only now that both parties have realized that their partner is a guy.
Of course this does not suggest that either guy is a one heck of a good fisherman, though the poster is confused about his orientation since he isn't quite ready to give up on his feelings for his partner.

I understand his shock finding out she was a guy, but when he said she thought HE was a woman, I died of laughter It just sounded like a joke after that.
How does your girlfriend(guy) think you're a woman beforehand?  Maybe he is ticklish
