I am not familiar with this functionality. I assume it would just behave like a sloped surface instead of the actual angles present. It'd really have to have some game logic tied to the entity though to make it behave properly and play a relative animation.
Given that we don't have any animation for a character climbing a ladder and given that it's a highly rare and strange Dragon Ball Z maneuver, I would go with alternative options for accomplishing whatever you are trying.
The ladder doesn't have to be functional, after all.

It was for the Kanassan buildings in the exterior space, I knew they would eventually become static props which could not be used.
Most players will eventually prefer flying to getting where they want to go, after fighting over lift usage.
(one weird brainwave, was to have an invisible collision box activate the moment the player gets to the ladder, of course considering the lack of a climbing animation that seems rather vague)
