I love Dragon Ball Z to death, but I'm am pretty sure there are much better anime's out there. I finished watching Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, and it was just flawless. Anyway, I keep up with the Naruto manga, I still like it. The anime however I stopped with, the animation quality (character design-wise) between Naruto the 1st part and Shippuuden went down. Characters were full of lush details in the original Naruto, Shippuuden look too cartoony. End of rant.

People love Dragon Ball Z because its what brought anime to the west. There were others, but Dragon Ball Z made anime a trademark in the west.
But that's all it is. Looking at it from a critical perspective, it has a flawed story that doesn't know if it should take itself seriously or just joke round the entire day long. Its character development can be summed up in the 3 sentences each character has for himself each arc if he even has that many and the plot goes nowhere, but instead just puts on a different dress and hopes people think its actually been somewhere.
And all that starts happening after the Frieza saga. "Big surprise" when I found out that was the first intended ending for the thing.
Animation quality was great at the time, but reusing the same 10 frames for 15 minutes in a 20 minute fight episodes also gets a negative mark.
And don't get me started on Dragon Ball GT. If that thing was Swiss cheese it wouldn't even exist because of the amount of holes it has.
Yet I still like Dragon Ball Z for the reason I stated above. It was the first anime of that sort that got outside japan. So liking it is more of a nostalgia thing than actually liking it for quality. Because quite frankly its mediocre at best when judged by quality. And though the years its become something of a meme or a running gag.

I liked Naruto back when he was an annoying punk. I keep reading the manga and even though it's getting kind of interesting, it's just not the same.

Can we just stop fighting? You CANNOT force people to like something they don't really like it as much as something else. I like more Naruto then Dragon Ball series, the fighting is too long if you ask me. It goes so long, I just don't feel the action it should have, watching Goku fight frieza was terribly boring, the only real good part was when frieza killed krillin and Goku turned Super Saiyan. That is the main reason I like Naruto more then Dragon Ball. Watching the whole anime once was great, I loved it. But after watching several times it just gets too boring. I can see most people like Dragon Ball more then Naruto, but have you ever thought that watching it like 3 times is too boring? In my opinion, Dragon Ball series were made to watch it mostly once because when you know what will happen next makes it all so boring. When the naruto series will be finished and after I watched them several times, I will just go watch another anime. You can think whatever you want (like I am a fool or traitor or anything else) but I will still like naruto more then Dragon Ball.

what?
Anyway, to a degree I agree with Grega. But it was the inconsistency of the animation studios that lessens the quality of it. It can go from really good looking and well animated to...bleh:

I recently started watching naruto , though it's not as interesting , it does have a pretty strong plot and greg , we still love Dragon Ball Z and people who say its falwed , I don't agree at all , there was constant action and less , allot less off track episodes
EDIT : WHY GIVE SO MUCH ATTENTION TO SUCH THINGS WHICH DON'T EVEN LAST A SECOND , ANIMATION ANIMATION ANIMATION THAT'S ALL I HEAR FROM CRITICS , I MEAN THE GENERAL AUDIENCE DON'T EVEN NOTICE IT , I NEVER NOTICED IT

Agreed! And not to forget Darker Than Black and Code Geass (In the action category)
and I have to agree with Grega. There are a loooot of anime with a solid Storyline and awewsome action.
Don't believe me? Try "Darker than Black", you'll get hooked from the 1st episode.
Even Bleach has a better and hooky storyline than Dragon Ball Z, it got me hooked in the 1st arch, But after the Bount arc it just got boring. *intense laughter*
Same with Naruto, The beginning episodes were pretty awesome, but the storyline degraded over time.
So, conclusion, for me, the most important thing is the story, so, I agree Dragon Ball Z is awesome, it introduced me to Anime. But in terms of Story, many anime are better than it. Also, the length of fights in Dragon Ball Z is friggin' long.
Same with Beyblade, come on' Spinnin' for more than 3 eps?? with all the more talking than the actual stuff you wanna see(in Dragon Ball Z and naruto too) is just............
the only long Anime that makes sense and is still fun to watch nowadays is One Piece. Its fast paced when it ahs to be and slow paced when it has to be and leaves you wanting more!
@RealDeal: I love Spongebob!!! *taiaiaiaiaiai*

Okay but very inconsistent Kishi is with the plot, too many talk-no jutsu, Naruto/Sasuke bloppity blip bloop, Kishi bringing out new stuff from no-where, people not dying when they look like they were and the buttocks-pull Kishi brings out like "Sasuke: I have no chakra" Yet, manages to summon Manda!
And Kishi isn't good at maintaining a fight, and too many stuff that has been unsolved far too long like How did Kakashi activate the Mangekyou sharingan?
Also, too many EYe powers, especially for the Uchiha clan, bloppity blip bloop! No love for the Byakugan, and mark my words.. Sasuke will achieve a new power up ( like he does already) probably will be the rinnegan.
/rant over
Could've said more, though I'll say it at another time.

I know and it's frustrating. Kishi is a sexist as well.
