It's not a good one.
It's a great one. Simply great. I'm still waiting for something new

It stick with the old schoolish formula. Sadly not quite as atmospheric as HL1, but it has its moments. Nedeless to say Gravity Gun owns all kinds of buttocks.
Character control is as responsive as you'd expect from old school titles, but if you are looking for any kind of realism like aiming down gun sights or advanced cover systems, it will not be the thing for you.
But yeah I enjoyed it.

I think that's the first time I've heard of a 3D game being described as 'old school'.

Half Life 2 is not available without STEAM. Even the CD installs STEAM + the game.
And Zeth. Duke Nukem 3D, HL1, Quake, Unreal, Unreal Tournament. Those are all considered old school today.
heck in 5 to 10 years the first cal of duty will be considered old school by people.
As new generations grow up more and more things will be old school, not just what we experienced when we were kids.
One person might say playing the NES was old school, while another will tell him that isn't true, because playing Pong was old school.
But when I was talking about Half-Life 2 sticking with the old schoolish formula I meant in the same way UT does. In the way that it feels quite as arcadeish as the old titles from the 90s, only with toutched up GFX. Hardly any main stream games actually dare follow that formula nowadays. Its all about cover systems, realism and what not.

Actually Half-Life 2 mods require the correct SDK. You can get that from TF2. You don't require Half-Life 2 itself to run most of them.
This of course excludes mods that are aimed at HL2s single player and similar ones, since they directly mod Half-Life 2. But stuff that's not related to Half-Life 2 should work just fine with the SDK you get from TF2
