It's a long time that the project is still stuck...
My question is... why?
I've seen the last revision, the unstable one, and it's simply amazing, because it has a new arena, some new character, a more realistic shading and a new HUD interface... It has also new animations for Transformations, like Goku's one. It's Good Stuff.
It would be nice that you fix the revision's glitches and release a new stable version... So you can revive the community, the players and the project.
Also, it could help the depeloment of the game, by recruting people that like the new stable revision.

Development on ZEQ2 Lite has died off lately due to the developers focusiong on ZEQ2(Unity) instead.
As for why not just quick-fix the latest revision and release it for everyone to play... As it has been stated in some posts, playing and clans have had a negative effect on development. Thus, mêlée has been removed on purpose to reduce the number of players.
With that said, do not worry. ZEQ2 will be more of a game than ZEQ2 Lite is, so just be patient

Well there is no progress for quite a while because "you" community don't contribute.
Its open sourced project and anyone can make something of worth and contribute it. So if you have problems with no progress done then you should blame only "yourself"
I doubt there will be any more progress on ZEQ2-lite by old and current developers that've been contributing for quite some time. So gather up, learn (plenty tutorials around here and google is your friend) and make something neat!

VLadD, if you talk to Bradless and your work meets the quality checks(which I don't exactly know since I've never committed anything to Lite SVN), your work should be in the latest revision "in a jiff" as Brad has stated.

As was stated, the passing wave of developers that created most of the current unfinished programmatic/design changes have since moved on to other projects. This is community-driven project and has no centralized development team, release schedules, etc. Contributions and progress are made possible by individuals like yourself and thus can be very stop and go if no one is interested or capable to focus on the core project.
As for why not just quick-fix the latest revision and release it for everyone to play... As it has been stated in some posts, playing and clans have had a negative effect on development. Thus, mêlée has been removed on purpose to reduce the number of players.
The progress on development has nothing to do with the player-base and their actions. The mêlée code was not necessarily 'removed'. Many systems in ZEQ2-lite were gutted and revamped to make way for superior designs. They are simply not finished or being actively worked on.

Game died when 1536 came, would've been wonderful to have a working server browser for the old version (Public Beta 1)

Oh, I guess mêlée being removed on purpose was a rumor. Should have asked you or Mima before posting

Not true. ZEQ2-lite is not yet a "game" to begin with. There are no defined goals or objectives that exist yet -- about as much of a game as mspaint is.
Besides that, open-source projects don't die; they hibernate until someone else comes along. Besides THAT, 1536, while still an incomplete progress version, made considerable advances over the public beta 1 codebase and general mechanics.
On a whole, this project was inactive for 2.5 years between ZEQ2 and ZEQ2-lite development and then more than 1.5 years after that before revision development. There is no determined schedule and no active development team. If you don't want staggered development, get involved and fix it.

I see the point, I tried in the past to do some characters (Nello knew that I tried to do something) but I have a life, and I really can't found the time to create stuff when I have to study and go to the gym every day...

Yeah, but how much people is able to control quake engine? 1-2? And, by the way, even if I want to learn, it's useful, because in those sections I don't see tutorials that talk about that.

It's funny how many people try to say they "have a life" just because they don't want to do a certain thing. School, jobs, relationships, working out, etc. is no different than playing games, creating art, being a part of a community, or anything else. The only difference is that YOU personally PRIORITIZE them more and try to justify certain actions as being superior simply because the rest of the world (sometimes) does the same activities.
My point is that that no matter how much you want to rationalize your actions in life, there's no reasonable way to apply some universally correct standard. If you REALLY want something to happen bad enough, you'll prioritize time to make it happen and do it regardless of what anyone else thinks. If not, then it apparently isn't that important to you.

Hey, it was better than what we have now ;p Besides, I was good I only spammed you
Besides THAT, 1536, while still an incomplete progress version, made considerable advances over the public beta 1 codebase and general mechanics.
These advances you speak of , my opinion, were not good ones.
1536
mêlée is based on the fastest clicker
fatigue matters little
block can stop every attack
no attacks are balanced
lock on is lacking
no more free fall
Easily for young rascals to learn
More ego
Public Beta 1
mêlée had a bug that could get you stuck, but you could always escape by holding boost and backward
Attacks are balanced
Less connection pvp errors
Free fall and lock- on (wonderful enough said)
Lots of ego
etc.
When this new version of the project (the word game seems to be a peeve) released I realized how pointless it was to play since it took no effort at all. I actually thought it had receded in its progress.
I honestly would figure out a way to import all maps and characters back to Public Beta 1 if I could figure out how to get the server browser working on that version.
^ That could also revive the community, give us the basis to start again on our own. (suggestion tis all)
If you don't want staggered development, get involved and fix it.
Zeth, my darling, please give me instructions/links/immutable belief book on how to get the server browser working in Public Beta 1, and this project can get started again.

Free falling still exists in 1536, and mêlée is based on a lot more than the fastest clicker. I'm sorry you did not test it long enough to realize it.

Freefalling = Removing lock on. (tis what I meant.)
And yes, for me it does rely on clicking the fastest, of course, if we got a Public Beta 1 with server browser, I bet we could figure out how to implement some sides of both versions of mêlée

well... you can put the characters from the stable version in the public beta 1... is just like when you add an addon... well... you have to change a couple things in the script and about the maps, I'm not sure, but I will check it later... anyway I want to play the public beta 1 I wanto to be again a cheater hahahah...

I programmed both public beta 1 (revision 859) and revision 1536. No system got "worse" and everything was of a planned and practical design. Every change was made for a vastly improved core, but that doesn't mean every overlying system was actually finished. The revision builds were requested by everyone to be open and, as such, 1536 was flagged as stable by the COMMUNITY.
The problem isn't a shift in comparative quality. You need to understand the unique criteria of classification involved when dealing with a repository version and one designed for play testing.
Zeth, my darling, please give me instructions/links/immutable belief book on how to get the server browser working in Public Beta 1, and this project can get started again.
Is a working car from the 1970s more usable than an unfinished flying car from 2070? Of course. Is it better in the long run? Not even close. Should you try and put parts from the future one into the older one? Absolutely not. That's what we call backwards progression. If work is done, it should always be on the latest iteration.
Download the SVN (source and build recommended at least). Learn its code structure. After that, contact me about a particular aspect and I'll gladly explain the design plans and direction for that area.

Are you REALLY willing to help ZEQ2 Lite? And have you actually tried to get into coding? With enough dedication, you can do it in less than 3 months, including the "learning code structure" part.
The general consensus says programming is impossibly hard unless you're a no-life nerd. That does not mean it's true. Try your hand at it, you might even find it fun!
