"Better" is relative. If you want to fully test it, you should make a dedicated server and join with two copies of the game. You can try meleeing yourself.
Due to the unfinished camera system, your view will jump all around while meleeing. Additionally, damage values will be kind of screwed up. Expect major FPS drops on some maps and/or being unable to connect to servers, too.
Did I mention the part where the smallest KI attack makes your camera jump to a new position? 
Now, you are free to play whatever revision you wish to - But 1536 is flagged "stable" for a reason. The latest revision still has unfinished systems which greatly affects gameplay. Should those systems be finished, it can indeed be called "better" from a gameplay point of view.
