Ability to delete posts was disabled less than a year ago to prevent authors from deleting their own threads or informative posts simply because they had a change of heart (which seemed to be occurring a lot).
This is basically a security measure to prevent loss of productive/critical content. Due to a sluggish server (at times), this has had a byproduct of non-patient users creating multiple posts from re-clicks, but it's hardly a price to pay in exchange until the newer web system/forums are ready.
