I want to ask 1 question: Is there anyway to get FBX importer for blender, I already have md3 exporter but I need FBX I haven't found one that actually works, so I was wondering is there? and if not what files work both with 3ds max 2012 and blender latest ver that support animations? I can't download 3ds max 2010 doesn't work with my computer -_-

I've spent a few minutes googling for you. Everything I found, people said either doesn't work or doesn't even launch.

One post also said it's somehow illegal to write an FBX Importer due to Autodesk licenses.

Sorry.

Well thanks maszek but is there any format that both 3ds max and misfit model can open that works with animations?

Your best bet would be to try and find a .max importer/exporter for Misfit Model, or the other way around, find a plugin for 3DS Max that lets you open files saved in Misfit.

To be perfectly honest I don't think you're going to find a direct import/export plugin from Blender to 3DS Max, or vice versa, because of differences in how the two programs handle animations and mesh data.

Your best option, really, is to pick a program and only export to an MD3 format once everything is finished, and not before. If You're doing anything extra in Misfits beyond adjusting scale, minor edits, or export error correction, you're making things hard on yourself, because there are much better tools for that in Blender and Max.

There are a slew of FBX importers out there for Blender. Have you tried this one?

Failing that, try to use a COLLADA format for your exchange if your programs support it. Sadly, there are very few formats that will preserve your skeleton/weight/vertex attributes/hierarchies cleanly between software (at least few to none that exist with native application support).

On another forum, people said the FBX importer you linked does not work. Trying doesn't hurt and won't take long, though.

Well, I got the link from a blender-type blog that said it was one of the few working ones (but only for the specified versions). The people in the thread seem to have had luck with it as well.

Hah! I suppose the people from the thread I found had incompatible versions? Quite a funny situation.

Well me and my friend did a model with animations etc, and after I finished with it he gave it Vegeta animations then to send back to me to finish the rest of the animations in misfit but the file is in max and fbx and his 3ds max is 2012, 3ds max does not work with my computer therefore I can not, convert it, so I tried blender but couldn't find a working fbx Importer.

I tried that but it doesn't work it opens it but doesn't show the model or lets you convert it.

Why doesn't 3DS Max work? Maybe we can figure out a way to fix it?

Because it does same thing almost everything does... even Tortise SVN it says Premature install or install fail always -_- this could be because my computer is very new and is x84 not x32 or x64

I think you got the numbers wrong there Very Happy

x64 is a 64-bit operating system, however x32 doesn't exist - 32-bit is referred to as x86.

I have never heard of x84 either. Either way, if I'm correct and you have a 32-bit operation system, it could be the reason 3DS Max refuses to install. I remember having the same problem.

Well weirdly mine says 84 =/ as for the x I refer to all of them as x because my memory is very bad, I forget little things and big things sometimes more often then a normal person.

brother have you ever tried this ms3d import/export script. I don't know how to use it. but if you export it in ms3d format then you can open it with blender.

Fun fact: It turns out you have better memory than me. Quick googling shows that x64 is 64-bit and x84 is 32-bit, not x86 Razz Sorry, I'm silly.

Anyway, I think 3DS Max might have 32-bit versions?

I've never heard of an x84 archecture. x86 refers to 16/32-bit architectures (primarily the latter).

Hmm. We have quite a few guys around here who have lots of experience with 3DS Max. If you copy-pasted the exact errors you get and describe when/how you got them, at least one of them would probably have a solution.

What you do is you go into the blender programs and add the addon then you open bleneder and go into preferences then just press the empty box on the export/import so it turns into a tick then press okay or whatever and it should be in export and import.
