I don't know much about modeling (nothing) but milkshape is useful for decompile and that things (:S) and 3dsmax is more... "cool" (sorry, I don't know what words use *intense laughter*)
Maybe I'm wrong *intense laughter*

look around there are enough tutorials posted in the forums already. Don't worry about compiling yet.

my recommendation is 3Ds MAX too. I'm learning too. I found 3Ds MAX more userfriendly. And it has a lot of tools. ANd for exporting, I figured out a way.
1. Create you're model in 3Ds MAX
2. Import it in milkshape
3. Save as MD3
OR
Just download a MAX plugin to export to md3.

Hey man good work.
How did people discover a new place at the other side of a cave?
By exploring, isn't it? So, exploring is the best way.
And you're welcome.
