But clockspeeds mean aboslutely NOTHING. The architecture used in the Playstation 3's cell processor is completely different to anything currently available so there is absolutely NO comparrison on how powerful or how good it is until people get their hands on them and benchmark the things. When I say the Playstation 3 probably won't be any more powerful than the 360 it's not because of figures from uncomparable technical specifications but from reports by actual developers who have found the 360 to be no worse off in terms of power and the Playstation 3 a nightmare to develop for. I'd link you to the blog article, but Sony fired him for it and forced him to take it down.

As for Res Evil 5, MGS4 and all that, they're sequals of borign old franchies and hardly anything I'm interested in. Why can't they get something new, eh?

People, please, get some information before you start fanboying "the best console ever", it isn't even out for atleast another seven months.

Playstation 3 has a cell-architecture and xbox360 a PowerPC architecture, so you can't compare them in terms of GHZ
You also can't compare them, because they don't share the same platform like AMD and Intel do.(Unless you have a universal benchmark that works for every platform.)

It's like comparing apples with pears.

I like pears more though

Furthermore, comparing the number of MHZ/GHZ just show how much you know of the subject, absolutely nothing.

You can't even compare AMD and Intel processors by clockspeed these days anyway, and they're virtually identical compared to the difference between the triple core PPC in the 360 and the Cell processor. Clockspeed lost all meaning years ago.

That's why I did took that comparison in the second line

A 2,4GHZ Conroe is faster then a 3,2 GHZ Athlon 64(if it existed) or a 6,5 GHZ Pentium 4(if it existed).
Ultimate example that clockspeeds are SO 2k1

Getting back to the thread topic....

I feel no need to support "The Devil" (also known as Microsoft) any further than I have to so I'll be purchasing a Playstation 3.

I will however wait about 6-12 months after the release so they can work out many of the bugs that are bound to be present in the release day consoles.

We should all by now that Microsoft is lloyd's Messenger, and the Xbox is the holy miracle.

I'm going to be getting a Xbox360 and Nintendo Wiivolution. And when the FF7 remake comes out I might consider getting a Playstation 3.

Seriously, though, as 'evil' as MS are in the PC industry, they have been nothing but good for the console industry. And as evil as MS are, most of you guys who won't get an Xbox because it's an MS product undoubtably use Windows, which is an MS product. I dislike windows, I dislike MS's attitude to PCs and I would much prefer them stop trying to control everything, but as far as the Xbox goes, I think they should focus on that because they're actually *good* at it. Put you prejudices aside and give it a chance as a console, because in the end your money isn't going to MicroSoft, it's going to Xbox. Or even, if you really want to harm MS, buy as many as you can so they have to produce more. After all, they are making a substantial loss on each unit

But there will eventually hacks emerge and you will be able to stuff Linux into the xbox 360

Wow, after seeing the Sony press conference at E3 I have to say my confidence in microsoft is more than a little shaken. There were some pretty nice games demo'ed and trailer'd for the Playstation 3 that are looking really nice.
Might be a better decision to wait and see what all the console manufacturers are gonna come out with in the conferences before making a decision =/

Fony likes copying stuff? Yeah, right... I wonder what was PS1, Playstation 2 ripped of? According to my information (which could be wrong) sony's original PlayStation was THE FIRST console with CD-ROM that achieved such success (yeah I know there were consoles with cdroms before but they weren't to popular). Playstation 2 was also first of a kind . the first 'next-gen' console in it's time.

And how would you prove that Playstation 3 IS a cr@ppy ripoff of your beloved Xbox360 and Wii?

And don't you dare to call me a fanboy 'cause I have NO hatred for any console. Yeah, Xbox is creation of M$ but what the heck... and I totally admit that Nintendo are specialists in gaming.

P.S. I hope that one day I'll have enough money to get myself at least one console I'll prefer Playstation 3 because of my first true love in consoles - Gran Turismo...

The playstation was completely ripped off nintendo. Sony was originally in partnership in creating a console under the name 'playstation', I think it was originally going to be the snes-cd or something like that I think? Suffice to say, something happened, they split off and sony decided to use Nintendo's ideas and name for their own console. Didn't you hear about the legal battles of the Playstation name a few years ago?

Sony stole the hard drive and online support straight from the 360. This can be said because before the 360 was out they were adament that "We don't need a harddrive or online plan! The fans don't want it and neither do we!" but earlier this year, after the 360's release and booming success due in part of XboxLive and having a harddrive, Sony changed their mind. Not just a coincendence is it? As for the controller, is there anyway they didn't rip it off nintendo? Well, yes, there's also the fact that microsoft released I PC controller years ago which had a gyro in for motion control and caused you to look like just as much of a good guy playing games with it. But, still, if Sony had thought of it themselves then they would have changed the pad design so that it would actually work with the idea, as nintendo did. Whoay pre-rendered you say? Not really but nice that you think it was pre-rendered ..sure there were some pre-rendered stuff.. but also on the Xbox360 conference and there will also be on the Wii conference

Dude, did you even read what I said? I never said it shouldn't have online support or that it simply having a harddrive is copying, I said that Sony said in press releases and interviews that the Playstation 3 wouldn't have them and didn't need them, they only changed their mind when more people were going on about how great XboxLive is than there were people sucking up their hype.

I don't have anything against anyone buying the console they want at all, I'm just correcting the people who think it's some barnstorming super console which will revolutionise everything. Facts are facts and the facts are that all sony's announcements of features have been copycatting either Nintendo's or Microsoft's success with said features, putting a higher price tag on it and not doing it justice with the games shown off so far. Apart from the Blu-ray drive, ofcourse, that's wholely Sony's fault. I'm just waiting to see what happens with all those $1,000 blu-ray players and their manufacturers. No one will buy them because they could just get a Playstation 3, manufacturing will stop through lack of sales, publishers won't want to release movies on a format without hardware support, bye bye blu-ray, hello HD-DVD.

But, yes, in the end it's all about fun and I'm going to have great fun on my 360 and, when I get it, my Wii. You realise it'll be cheaper to buy both of those than a Playstation 3? No doubt more fun too
