Pacman all over again \o/.

I don't think it will be a big hit as like the Sims.
I can imagine some people finding this getting too complicated and not as fun as drowning your own sim in the pool, hehe.

Yeah. I don't think all of you are giving spore a chance here Wink.

Its an action/RPG/strategy/RTS expansive world starting in cell-based organisms expanding all the way to space exploration. VERY impressive stuff especially considering all the procedural approaches to EVERYTHING. The total game probably won't be much bigger than a few MB since all content is database-driven through script calls.

Everything builds itself from other user data. You can build everything yourself as well. Your own character, species, tools, vehicles, buildings, space crafts, etc. Animations are based on bone structures so they are generated procedurally through script calls as well. Actions can be stacked indefinently to create new actions. For instance, eating a dead carcass might be one action. Walking might be another. If you start to eat, the try to walk whilst doing so, you will invent the new action of 'drag'.

We're not talking just appearences either. We're talking about functionality as well. "Spore" is a great start to a game genre I have been exploring for years. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of some of the more imaginative game types I have desired, but it is DEFINENTLY a great start.

The only thing I'm worried about is the CPU usage...

I don't think you'll have to worry too much about that.
On http://www.gamedev.net/directory/careers/default.asp?jobid=996 you can see that they're searching for people that can help them create Spore for handheld consoles.

I have been looking forward to this game for years. It has all the innovation that I think video games of the future should have, and I'm guessing that its just the beginning ^^

Finally I will have something new and different to play!

I saw this video a few days ago and hadn't heard anything about the game before that. I have to say it's one of the most jawdroppingly innovative lloyd games I've seen. Every other game in the "lloyd game" genre has some kind of limit to what you can do and your aim is quite specific, but this looks so awesomely open ended that it deserves to be called a lloyd Game.

Evolving a creature from a single cell to a walking, living creature in your own image, taking it through primitive cultures to city dwelling nations with armies, colonizing other worlds, creating eco systems on them, encountering alien intelligence, blowing their planet up (mwahahahaaha), it's amazing and would keep a lot of people playing it for years.

I have wanted to see a game on this grand a scale for ages and quite amazed to see it come from the guy who made the Sims. I'm most definately going to buy this and waste my life away on it.

This game looks really interesting, definitely a must buy.
I'm really fascinated by the history of earth and how things evolved, now I can make my own world *evil laugh*

Ill have to agree, what part I most like is to create/evolve you're creature.
I always like to edit stuff and toy with things and this might just be THE most fun game on that lvl.

Seriously creating you're own species...
too awesome..

And the fun thing on the movie, where Will blew up that entire planet.. Very Happy I like that (must be my evil side)

Everyone has one. Some are more protruding it and than others. Die monkeys die! or playing lloyd and make some of the creatures fly so the others'll think he's jesus.

in my opinion I hope you can start in a certain stage of gameplay so that you can play the part you like any time you like. That's like lego, stratego, domino?and em transformo(s) all in one
