Gunz- Gunzonline.com

Gunzonline is pretty fun. Similar to 'The Specialists' mod in HL. Servers seem to be down right now though unless I am mistaken.

Well, scratch that then.
Installing StarForce is like installing a two-for-one disaster; a big fat security loophole (ring-0 kernel access for ring-3 user code) and a ticking time-bomb for your SCSI and IDE driven hardware.

Yes, StarForce can actually physically WRECK your hardware.
It can cause a multitude of read errors for optical drives. When this happens Windows starts kicking back the drive access speed, until it rolls back all the to 16bit PIO mode. Modern optical drives don't understand that mode, so at best they won't work. At worst, they'll misinterpret the commands sent to them and do weird poo like trying to move the laser assembly past its farthest point: *CRACK*

Other devices, like SCSI harddisks seem to be victimized by StarForce as well.

And lets forget here the privacy. StarForce install some drivers which basicly monitors you activity.

I believe StarForce was made in France and also banned in France as a CD copy security, because of privacy and law issues.

I've never actually managed to get Gunz to work...

Anyway, http://albatross18.com/ is a pretty fun golf arcade game.

Sorry, but you're wrong on the third and second account;
StarForce was programmed by a Russian company and is vigorously used by UbiSoft (based in France) on just about every title they release. A shame really, because UbiSoft has some of the best games out there, but I don't want to end up with a fried drive because of it, and not getting a refund. (Because naturally UbiSoft directs you to the guys that made StarForce, who coldly and cooly deny even the slightest possibility of their software loving up people's machines and point you back to the game manufacturer. Rinse, lather, repeat...)

The first account, I'm not sure of. StarForce claims their driver software only kicks in when a StarForce protected game is inserted into the optical drive, but numerous accounts claim otherwise; It appears to be active all the time. If it actually monitors your PC for anything is unknown.

I don't like games that are in beta stage free >>
Most of the time, when I'm most addicted, it becomes payware >>

Hmmm... free games... America's Army?

The only thing I know sure that it got banned, didn know the first one for sure.

I also believe they would give 1000 or 10.000 euro for anyone who could prove(In Moscow I believe orso) that StarForce can damage your hardware.

If you don't mind restrictions and just want to bash a game, theres loads of demos out there..
www.google.com

Search: Gametitlehere Demo

They are restricted obviously thier demo's, I'm not to sure if any are online besides UT2004 you can play multiplayer online with that demo. You could always look further into the mod world like Q3's for example.

http://games.moddb.com/4/mods/Quake-3-Arena/

http://www.planetquake.com/quake3/hosted/mods.shtml

Then you could go even further and look into UT04 mods, I'l leave that to you though I'm feeling lazy now. Wink
