Offtopic: I wonder if it's possible to make a coherrent post that gets completely filtered? I wouldn't doubt it with the amount of wordfilters that seem to be set up Confused

Mhm... I think everyone has different tastes there.
I really loved the story of FFVII and also the story of FFX, FFVIII was also good for me :/

Of course. I wasn't saying that the later FF series didn't have admirable traits NOR that they weren't solid games. I was merely saying that since the dawn of 3D games, the presentation and priority focus on elements in FF (and some RPG's in general) has shifted QUITE a bit over the classic ones.

Best-selling game =/= good game.

Having played all Final Fantasies apart from FF3 (the real FF3, not the dubbed FF6), I think I'm pretty much at liberty to say it sucked [censored] [censored].

1 and 2 showed promise, but the NES simply was too limiting for what it wanted to do.

3, I don't yet know about (but I'm eagerly following all the news on the Nintendo DS remake...).

4 was great in its simple yet powerful execution. Laying the ground work for a success formula.

5 added a great job system to the gameplay. The quality of the story is a bit debatable on this one, but it's still pretty good. (And you've simply got to love Gilgamesh' antics.)

6 had unique characters and good story and finally put the finishing touches on the ATB system. Played like a dream, looked like a dream (for its time).

7 for the first time felt truly epic. Using 3D made the world feel more alive and much grander. Made limitbreaks far more useful than they were in 6.

8 was a misfire, ditching the fantasy aspect almost totally, went way too heavy on the emo, emphasized graphics over gameplay, etc. If you seek the black sheep, then this is it. (Short of Mystic Quest, perhaps.) Cheap shot limit breaks and spell junctioning also made it way too easy, without even power leveling.

9 was a throwback to the Final Fantasies of old and is arguably the best out of the PS1 FF family. Great presentation, great character design (apart from Jar-Jar Binks distant cousin twice removed; Quina *urgh*), great magic and limit system.

10 just went even more overboard with graphics over gameplay and emo than 8 did. Fail, fail, fail. Also the sphere grid was a convoluted way of handling skills. Worst magic/skill system out of all the FF games that had a magic/skill system, in my honest opinion.

But of course 10 will do well in Japan, because 8 did much better in Japan than in the rest of the world as well. The Japanese just love their emo bishies. *sigh*

Hmmm I actually liked 8 over 7 allot. I liked it allot more with the futuristic stuff in it than 7. And besides that the story of 7 never gotten to me, cause well, I dislike Cloud.. Razz

10 did look good yeah but the story wasindeed kinda trash.
Besides 8 (which was actually the first FF I ever played) I really liked 5 and 6. But the problem is I can never keep em apart.
One of the 1 started the way you were in some walking machines with machina stuff, and the other was with a dude with his chocobo, and some big meteorite crashed into earth.

Anyways those 2 I liked best, next to 8. Those 3 are also the only ones I finished.

I have FFX and FFVII. VII is the only one I've completed, and enjoyed the most Smile Awesome materia system, they should of stuck with it for the rest of the games after VII.

(Took out the rumble to do it as well).

You don't just "add" that motion sensor in a few weeks or a month, they have been working on this before.

I can even remember they had ideas about this concept back when the Playstation 2 was introduced.(Read @ tweakers.net)

And they removed the rumble function because they have a lawsuit with MS about the rumble function.(Patent infraction)

RiO wrote : You also missed the part where Sony is using an USB interface for the controller, like the Xbox 360 is doing.

So?

They also had USB on the Playstation 2?(Not sure it worked with controllers though ;p) Did the Xbox360 rip it off the Playstation 2?
No it's a logical technological evolution/advancement.

RiO wrote : The pricing is ridiculous, and most of the features not in the 'core' version are more than likely not obtainable as extra slot-in modules or the like later on. (Like the HDMI interface, or the WiFi; both are built into the machine.) Which means you either buy cheap and stick with it, or buy expensive right away for 'the real deal'.

*ponders*, not its not.

Remember the Playstation 2 for 1200 gulden also known as 550 euro?
And wasnt the Playstation 2 the best sold consoles ever?

RiO wrote : Ken 'I'll-never-get-off-my-high-horse' Kutaragi actually said out flat he thinks the $599,- is too cheap for the damn thing as well. Talk about being full of yourself!

Actually if you count inflation with it. The actual price for the consoles(Playstation 2 vs Playstation 3) dropped.

To get some things straight... I'm tired of seeing the same old games I played on the PS1 on the Playstation 2, PSP, and Playstation 3... The only difference is in the audio/visual qualitiy... do something innovative for once!
And that's why I think the Wii will have better sales than the Playstation 3. I for one am fed up with all the ragdoll, shaders, HDR, 7.1, HDTV and other bling bling.
Graphics are not the purpose of games. The purpose of them are to have FUN. And games are becoming less and less fun. Or just too repetitive.
The games play the same they played 10 years ago, when the PS1 came out... maybe some minor modifications here and there...
Instead of making new games, they rerelease the old ones with a few fixes and improvements... take the tekken series for example... I don't really remember the first and the second one, but 3 was the same as tag almost, and 4 and 5 just tweaked the way you move around...
We need changes. Gameplay changes... Atleast I do...

Yeah, it took longer than a couple of weeks, but they had a whole damn year. Everything about Sony and the Playstation 3 has been like that kid back in school that you got in every class, who procrastinated on all his projects, giving a lackluster effort while putting on a cocky facade, then, after seeing what everyone else has done he spends the whole deadline day copying everyone else, doesn't it?

Let's face it, dude, Sony showed off their boomerang last year and got poo in their faces for it while Nintendo showed off their motion sensing Wii-stick to astounding applause. Soon after, Sony throw out their boomerang (luckilly it didn't fly back and hit them) and said "We have a NEW!controller, yes we do, completely new! No! You can't see it! It's not finished." All the way up 'til E3 this year, a whole damn year of them saying how much they've been reworking the controller design and it turns out exactly the same as the old one, just wireless and with tilt-detection. Come on, if they inovated that off their own back it wouldn't be so damn intellectually lacking. Sony had ideas about this concept back when the Playstation 2 was out because, if you didn't know, MS and other PC pad manufacturers were doing exactly the same with their pads around that time, sony didn't do anything with it because the PC pads proved what a failure that style of tilt controlled gamepads were, which again just proves how desperate Sony are, that they'll delve into proven failed tech to try and get some publicity.
