Someone apparently hacked into Valve's database and stole customer's account and credit card information, and has threatened to release them publicly dependent upon the response he receives from Valve.
It hasn't yet been confirmed by Valve, but I think its serious enough for anyone who has purchased anything over the steam platform to consider.

*laughing out loud* but Valve is really witty if they know that they are hacked...why don't they tell anything on their site or forums... cowards

It's major but I don't really tend to care about steam.

Yeah, is it any surprise I dislike Steam with a vengence? Valve have never had good security, the fact they had HL2's source code nicked is testament to that. It's rediculous that their concept of 'the most secure application ever' has been hacked to shite. There's loads of different 'hacked' steams about to allow simple and easy free play of Steam games, I think it's even possible to download the games straight off Steam servers for free, not to mention there's ways of playing on official servers with hacked versions. So much for the ultimate anit-piracy, game security tool, eh?
While the base concept of Steam is a great one, Steam it's self is a steaming pile of faecal matter: an insecure resource hog which can download executable data to be run, by-passing any system security, off a company notorious for being hacked in the gravest way without requiring your consent or knowledge. Not to mention the whole fact that if an update is needed you can't play the damn game until it's done. If you just fancy a quick five minute raz on something but an update is needed, you're out of luck.
to be honest, though, as much as I dislike Steam, I was thinking of caving in and buying GMod10 because it's cheap and a laugh, but definately not now that my paranoid concerns (or atleast should have been such) about hackers gaining access to the depths of Steam's servers, accouont info and such have actually happened.
EDIT: Oh. Maddox did it. No wonder
