So like the topic title states. Does anyone else in here use programs such as Litestep and other shell modifying programs?
If so how about we post somt pictures? Here's my current desktop.

I just use Style XP, not a fan of the really big shell edits.
( normally my desktop is filled up to around 75% )

Litestep is actually better then explorer.exe in terms of computer useage. So if you want the most out of Windows, get rid of explorer.exe and start using litestep.
Everyone usually has trouble with litestep at first because of compatablity. A lot of old themes people used in litestep usually will not work with the new version.
www.litestep.net
Go to that website and register. Download the newer themes and most of them should work just fine on your computer. Sadly that site does not have the Litestep installer download so you will need to find that else where but if you have any problems with it just give me a ring.
Edit:
Nice Blaize I like the background, very basic change to Windows but it looks nice.

I used to use litestep yyeeeaaarrrrrs ago. Looks to have improved a heck of a lot since then, though, don't think it was too much more than a dockbar and widgets back then. Might take another look at it when I get windows back up and running again personally I wish I didn't have to use windows, but there's too much I use on there to go completley linux.

Alex: Just dual boot then, best of both worlds since you can use Linux whenever you please and still have the Windows aspect for programs and such that won't run on Linux.

What I don't like about litestep is that it is totally un-customizable on the fly... as you get it, that's how it is... And I'm pretty used to the entire concept of having icons on the desktop soo...

Not all themes are like mine though, you just need to find one that allows desktop icons which there's lots of them around.

I would rather reccomend (but that's just me) RKlauncher... Also join www.neowin.net, probably the biggest UI modding community online

Feh.
I just use the old Windows 9x/2000 UI.
Actually, I even use the old 2000 rendering engine as I performed a few registry hacks that make Luna completely kick the bucket.

Not bad RiO. Not to many people dare go into the registry, but you do know your stuff.
You hear much about Windows Vista RiO?
But for performance, Windows doesn't come close to Linux ^_^

You don't have to do any registry hacks... Administrative tools - services
Find the "Themes" service and disable it. Voila! I like my windows clean ^_^
Although I could reccomend a little program called "winroll".
http://www.palma.com.au/winroll/
It's written in assembly, and it has a memory footprint of 193 kb ^_^
Basically, it enables you to manipulate your windows in many many ways... (read the about)

True, never thought of that Punio. The way they teach us at college is do it the hardway. Good for future refrence though.

Uhh no offense I love Linux but even most Linux users need to use Windows for some programs/tasks, especially for the field in which I'm going in.
If you knew anything about me I am a actual Linux user, but with my course that I am currently taking I need access to Linux, Windows 2003 Server and Windows XP.
I dual boot, so really I don't care if the "actual(ignorant)" linux users find it disgraceful.

Oh come now, everyone knows Macs rule, stop living in denial!
I just wished I possessed one...
I used WindowBlinds for a while and some others, they worked all fine and dandy but I just got bored of them.
I also tried flyakite (a OSX transformation pack for WinXP) which was great but didn't really give a OSX 'feel' to windows, even though it's the best one.
Ofcourse I've used Yz'Dock and the other docks too but they all rule, because when you click on the desktop button they all stick around and if I make them stay on top, they are in the way
So in the end I'm just using the Windows Royale theme ... I so want a Macintosh

Naico... you'll learn one day
I have been on a UI modding spree for about a year now... I've tried literally EVERYTHING. And there was always atleast one issue...
Now I'm using windows classic...
NO bugs
NO redrawing/mass resource usage
Probably the best space usage out of any interface...
I've been using a mac a couple of times too... and I can't say I liked it better than windows... Everything is so BIIIIG I liked the 3D UI render though, that's why I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Vista

I had the same problem, nothing was good enough but at last I found something that I liked, it's simple but it works (see screenshot). The classic style is acceptable in my book, when I was still using win '98 with a 300MHz IBM, but now I can't stand it

Vista does look good but even though the OS is more secure I'd rather drop dead than buy it because of the new 'features'. Don't get me wrong, windows is good, erhm... in it's own way, I guess

We would I bother wasting my time dual booting when I have a linux workstation sitting next to my windows/gaming machine?

Well then nevermind, didn't know you had two comps ^_^
Luckily with the release of Windows Vista coming in the next year or so I'm going to be getting free license keys for each version of it.
